Avoid Disasters

Expensive, beautifully fixed tiles are wasted if the shower area is not effectively “tanked” to make it totally waterproof. BAL WP1 Waterproof Shower Kit provides the solution.

Preparation

Before the use of the BAL WP1 Waterproof Shower Kit, new structures should be allowed to dry out for the following minimum periods: concrete 6 weeks; plaster 4 weeks; cement/sand rendering 2 weeks and screed 3 weeks (24 hours for screeds and renders containing BAL Quickset Cement). For Anhydrite screeds seek manufacturers recommendation. Partition walls and timber floors must be adequately ventilated from behind or below, be well braced and sufficiently strong and rigid enough to support the weight of tiling.

Surfaces must be dry, sound, and free from oil, grease, dust and other contamination. Any voids or gaps must be filled with a suitable filler or sealant and allowed to cure. Cracks less than 1.5mm may be bridged with BAL WP1 Polyester Matting or BAL WP1 Polyester Tape. Do not use in cold, i.e. less than 5ºC, or in damp conditions.

Installation Procedures
  1. Prime all surfaces with BAL Prime APD and allow to dry.
  2. At the following locations apply BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating with a suitable brush or float. - Internal and external corners of walls/partitions and their junctions with bases,   upstands, columns etc. - Pipe penetration, drainage channels and outlets. - Junctions of different base/backgrounds materials. - Cracks and joints in background/base.
  3. Reinforce the above areas with BAL WP1 Polyester Tape.
  4. Apply a second coat of BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating over the BAL WP1 Polyester Tape. Apply BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating to walls using either a brush or a steel float at a maximum of 2mm thickness.
  5. Apply BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating to walls using either a brush or a steel float at a maximum of 2mm thickness.
  6. Apply BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating to the floor.
  7. For heavy duty wet areas (e.g. communal showers and industrial wet process areas) and where some vibration or deflection in the base may be expected (e.g. timber bases), reinforce with BAL WP1 Polyester Matting (may be cut to the correct size with scissors).
  8. Bed the matting into the coating and apply a second layer of BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating over the top.
  9. BAL WP1 Waterproof Coating forms a background suitable for either BAL ready mixed or cementitious adhesives (no priming necessary). Allow the membrane to dry forat least 24 hours before tiling.
