Question logo
Are these tiles self-adhesive please?
Tracey Lyon | 19 Jun 2019
Answer logo
Hi Tracey,

This particular tile in our range of cork is not self adhesive and would require fitting with a specialist cor adhesive (2 other sizes are available)

Kind regards,

We want cork for in our new kitchen - I am concerned about around the sink and next to bifold doors as it could get wet etc - which tiles are the most protected and what treatment do I need to do after laying?
Grace | 25 Mar 2019
Answer logo
Hi Grace

Cork tiles can be used anywhere domestically, but are better suited to clean and dry areas, such as lounges, bedrooms etc. They can also be used in kitchens, but it is essential that spillages are not left to sit on the surface for long periods.

The area around the bi-fold doors can not only get wet, but you will also need to be cautious of bringing in external dirt and grit on the base of shoes and dragging it over the cork, which can also damage the surface.

Although the tiles are pre-sealed, it would be recommended to increase the wearability and water/stain repellency, that they are treated with two further coats of water-based wood varnish. This will limit or eliminate the possibility of water ingress between the joints and make the surface much harder wearing.

If you wish to discuss your project in more detail or to arrange samples or a quotation, please call our sales team on 01536 314730 or request a call-back via the link below, and they will be more than happy to help you.

I am looking at the two high density cork floor tile products, they state they are prefinished. I am looking to lay these in a bathroom and would like to know what adhesive would be required and whether any additional sealing is required after laying.
Stephen Belcher | 26 Jun 2018
Answer logo
Hi Stephen,

When using cork in a bathroom, it is essential to give them a further application of sealer, to minimise the possibility of adverse effects from moisture and humidity. Of the two high density cork we do, the Acryllic sealed is a better option, and while the Mylands wax is a suitable sealer for dry areas, a water-based floor varnish such as the Ronseal Diamond Hard, would be better suited to damp conditions and will form a better seal on the tile joints.

For fixing, we would recommend the Corkabond adhesive:
