garden decorating ideas

Part of our Summer of DIY series.

This Summer, we're hosting the #SummerOfDIY - a 6 week countdown to August's Bank Holiday Monday! Week by week, we're going to help you get your home ready for a spectacular garden party your friends will be talking about for years to come. Last week, we gave you an overview of what to expect. This week, we're tackling those outdoor spaces! Here are some quick and easy ways to transform a drab exterior into a stylish, trendy sanctuary you can relax and entertain in...

Ditch the decking

Got a decked area in your garden? Get rid of it! It fades in the sun, it requires regular treatment, and it's lethal when wet. Rip it up, and lay some anti-slip wood effect tiles in its place. There are some incredibly realistic wood effect options available these days - alive with texture and lifelike wood grain. You can choose from regular plank-shaped tiles, or go for a more interesting crate effect design. If you want to escape from wood entirely, you could choose a stone effect design instead. Our Country Rustic Tiles are perfect for introducing some gorgeous rural appeal. Need more outdoor tiles inspiration?

Create an outdoor living area

You only have to flick through the latest interior styling magazines to see that alfresco lounging is a big hit this summer, with stylists across the UK recreating perfect living spaces outdoors - coffee tables, sofas, the lot! And why not? The garden is an additional room, when you think about it. A room we can only enjoy and make the most of for a few months in the year. So why not set up home outside? Lounge on the sofa, whilst lapping up the sun. And when it starts to get a little colder, just light up the chiminea - the outside equivalent of the fireplace. We've put together a guide for creating an outdoor living area.

Nurture nature: Give wildlife a home in your garden

Whilst giving your garden a makeover, it's well worth incorporating some themes that will help nature to thrive. For example, be a little lazier when it comes to mowing the lawn. Raise the height of your mower blades, and leave longer between trims. The long grass will provide shelter for butterflies and moths. If you don't want to let your entire garden become overgrown, you could also leave a small section unkept. When grass grows long enough, it will give off a gorgeous meadow effect; often spouting colourful wild flowers. Here are 20 great ways to give nature a home in your garden.
