Reasons to Buy Urban Chic Tiles
Metro tiles are a timeless tiling trend but the style dates back to the 1920’s, where this look was the original choice for the London underground. Distinctive colours were used at the different stations to help passengers recognise when they’d reached their destination, and as a result, metro tiles are embedded in British culture. When they’re used in modern home décor they offer a ‘classic throwback’ look. However, they also hold clean, contemporary charm as well. Urban Chic is our own brand of brick shaped wall tiles, and we certainly have a lot to choose from here at Walls and Floors.
Whilst metro tiles are in constant demand, the styles available are forever expanding. In the beginning, there were bevelled metro tiles, followed by smooth options, for a flatter and more streamlined look. Later, bumpy ‘rustic’ options came out, and then antique shabby chic versions with a crackle glaze. All of these were originally available in two sizes; 200x100 and 150x75, but eventually metro tiles were manufactured in a wider range of sizes. Now, there are 300x100 and 400x100 size brick tiles as well! As you can see, there is a multitude of brick and metro tiles to choose from in the Urban Chic collection, in dozens of different colours, in both matt and gloss finishes. In fact, nobody in the UK offers a larger online selection than Walls and Floors.
Metro tiles can be used to tile a bathroom room from ceiling to floor or, alternatively, they can be used to create a kitchen splashback. A splashback is an easily wipeable surface that stands behind a cooker or sink and catches any moisture or pan fat, and prevents it from sinking into the wall. It’s only a small space enhancer, but it’s a great way of refreshing the look of a kitchen area; particularly if you’re injecting fresh new colours. For an extra trendy look when tiling with metro or brick tiles, use the latest trending layout; herringbone. This is where the tiles are laid out in a V-shaped fish spine design.
