Sealing, cleaning and maintenance

For a matt finish:

Sealer: We recommend sealing these tiles with LTP Mattstone Tile Sealer or LTP Mattstone H20 Tile Sealer. Both sealers fill the open pores in the surface, leaving the tile in its natural appearance.

Cleaning and aftercare: To keep these tiles clean, we recommend LTP Waxwash. It contains a trace of linseed oil which will help to repair and maintain the sealer without altering the finish.

For a satin to gloss finish:

Sealer: We recommend sealing these tiles with LTP Glaze Protector. The glossiness slightly increases with every application, depending on the desired appearance and can be applied up to a maximum of 6 coats. It's for dry areas and internal use only.

Cleaning and aftercare: Regularly use LTP Floorshine to increase the sheen and repair old worn sealer.

Hi, Can these tiles be used for the front steps leading to the porch? Thanks!

Hi Manjari

These tiles are fine for external use. They also provide good slip resistance for wet conditions, but we would still advise obtaining a sample to ensure it is suitable for your personal requirements, before making your final decision. If edge protection or additional slip resistance is required, we would advise installing a stair-nosing such as this:

Hi, any sealer recommended for these tiles? (To use in both exterior and interior)
Costanza | 5 Jul 2018

Answer logo
Hi Costanza,

The tiles have a low water absorption rate and as a rule do not need sealing for internal dry areas. However in areas with heave footfall or for wet or external situations, we would advise a coating of the LTP Mattstone sealer:

Question logo
I need to cover my wooden floor with ply and then tile. Is there a recommended ply depth for this and also the grout width for a clay tile. Someone told me that you need a 6mm width for clay but am unclear. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Nicola

Unfortunately, 6mm plywood is not suitable due to possible deflection. The British Standards for tiling onto a plywood floor is minimum 15mm thick overlay, screwed at 300mm centres. If height is going to be an issue, the only other option you have is to use a 6mm cement based backer board such as Hardie Backer:
