DESCRIPTION

These stunning, multi-layered Ledgestone Thin Black Split Face Tiles will add real character to your walls. Impress your friends and family with this modern, contemporary look. They're made form natural shaded slate, cut to different thicknesses and sizes. Splitface mosaic tiles can be used to create a feature wall or a kitchen splashback.

These tiles are premium quality, and the slate pieces have been hand selected to ensure a high quality finish. They are ideal for creating a high end, exclusive look in your home or business.

To help keep these tiles nice and clean, we suggest using LTP Grout Stain Remover. Natural stone tends to be slightly porous, so we recommend sealing your fantastic new tiles with either LTP Grout and Tile Protector or LTP Mattstone Sealer. To keep your tiles looking fresh and new, apply LTP Waxwash Maintenance.

Due to the nature of these natural slate splitface tiles we do not recommend for use in shower areas or areas that receive direct water to the surface. The manufacturing process of these linear slate tiles can leave very small joints that are difficult to completely seal

Stepped in saw tooth sides should give a good look without a grout.

These are a natural slate tile, so need to be sealed prior to, or soon after fixing. On the other hand, due to the design, there is no requirement for grouting. These are very much a feature tile and I am applying mine to a fireplace, where they look great. Being a natural product, the reverse of the tile is quite uneven and so requires slightly more cement than a ceramic tile. The biggest drawback is the shape of the tile. On a large wall this would not be a problem, but on a fireplace, with narrow walls, there is a lot of cutting to be done. This cannot be achieved with a standard tile cutter, as the slate will just shatter. A tile saw must be used, making the job much more time consuming, however, the results are worth the extra effort.

Hi Mike

Yes, they can. In fact, it is the recommended method of cutting for this type of material.

Hi,
Are these tiles suitable to put outside on a retaining garden wall, if so what’s the best material to fix and seal them.
Karen | 30 Apr 2019

Hi Karen

Yes, they can. They need to be fixed with a flexible cement based adhesive, such as our Stand Flex, but as well as spreading the adhesive on the wall, we also advise skimming the back of the tile to fill in any voids.
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/toolshed-tile-adhesive-standard-flex-grey-tile-adhesive

To seal, we recommend either the LTP Mattstone which will leave the tile it's natural appearance or the LTP Colour Intensifier which will slightly deepen the overall look:

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-cleaning-protecting-ltp-tile-colour-intensifier-11264

In addition, it is recommended that a damp proof membrane is placed on the back of the retaining wall to prevent sulphates coming through and potentially affecting the adhesive, and when tiling to the floor, a sufficient gap of 8-10mm is left to allow water run-off.

Question logo
Hi,
What process would you recommend for these tiles to be put onto a wall? Cleaned before or after being tiled onto wall? Then sealed after completion?
Neil | 14 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Neil,

For cleaning, we advise brushing the backs of the tile to ensure there is no loose flakes or dust. They can then be fitted on the wall, by serrating the adhesive to the wall and putting an additional skim on the back of the tile to fill any voids and increase the bond strength. Once the tiles have set, give them a gentle wipe over with a damp sponge to remove any last manufacturing dust or cutting debris, and once dry, they can be sealed with your preferred sealer.

We suggest either the LTP Mattstone, which will leave the tiles their natural colour, or the LTP Colour Intensifier which will slightly deepen the appearance:

Question logo
Hi.
Are you able to hang pictures or shelves etc. and what type of hanging kit would you suggest?
Thanks
Simone Craddock | 16 Sep 2018

Answer logo
Hi Simone,

Unfortunately, we are unable to advise on specific kits for hanging picture. However whichever kit is decided on, must be fitted through the tile and anchored/plugged sufficiently in the actual wall behind. This is the same method with any tile of any type.

Can these tiles be used around a log burning stove? Thanks

Hi Mark,

Yes they can, however we would advise fixing them with a heat resistant adhesive such as the Palace Heat Resist:
