DESCRIPTION

A Terracotta Red Clay tile with a heavily textured aged appearance. We recommend these tiles should be laid by eye (no use of spacers), and have a minimal joint of 5-8mm to achieve the desired rustic effect. Due to the nature of these natural terracotta tiles the tile sizes can vary.

Once the Terradine Terracotta is fixed, it should be sealed with Linseed Oil. Two coats are ideal to create a barrier to protect the surface against staining. Once sealed with oil they should be left to dry and not walked on. Once dry, the tiles can be grouted. It's best to grout a small area at a time; cleaning as you go. When you've finished the grouting, the floor should be left to dry. Once dry, Mylands Wax should be applied to the floor to create an additional, traditional protective barrier. A second or third coat of wax can be applied to add shine to the floor. Additional waxing should be done from time to time to maintain the protective barrier.

Fitting externally: If you're placing your tiles outdoors, we recommend applying several coats of LTP Mattstone Sealer beforehand.

The Terradine Natural Terracotta tile range is hand made and very traditional, they vary in shade and texture, many will have imperfections that are part of traditional characteristic of the natural clay, and natural imperfections will include surface flaws and minor cracks these should be used in a project to create a floor that will look old and rustic.

Planning to tile the kitchen with Rustic Red Terracotta tiles but wondering what colour grout works best. Don't want dark (ie grey) or very light (ie white). Is there a "terracotta" coloured grout that just blends in?

Hi Sean,

Sandstone has long been the most popular colour for terracotta tiles due to the way it compliments the natural tones of the tile, but we do also see Grey and Limestone occasionally used:

How do I revive quarry tiles in our kitchen?
They were probably laid more than 30 years ago

Hi Mike.

The short version is to mop the floor over with a generous amount of the LTP Grimex mixed with water, Then scrub the floor with an emulsifying pad (you may find a rotary cleaner easier and more thorough), rinse with clean water and leave to dry. You may find the floor needs a second treatment, but if it doesn't, reseal with the LTP Mattstone. Here are the links to the required products:
