A Terracotta Red Clay tile with a heavily textured aged appearance. We recommend these tiles should be laid by eye (no use of spacers), and have a minimal joint of 5-8mm to achieve the desired rustic effect. Due to the nature of these natural terracotta tiles the tile sizes can vary.

Fitting internally: Once the Terradine Terracotta is fixed, it should be sealed with Linseed Oil. Two coats are ideal to create a barrier to protect the surface against staining. Once sealed with oil they should be left to dry and not walked on. Once dry, the tiles can be grouted. It's best to grout a small area at a time; cleaning as you go. When you've finished the grouting, the floor should be left to dry. Once dry, Mylands Wax should be applied to the floor to create an additional, traditional protective barrier. A second or third coat of wax can be applied to add shine to the floor. Additional waxing should be done from time to time to maintain the protective barrier.

Fitting externally: If you're placing your tiles outdoors, we recommend applying several coats of LTP Mattstone Sealer beforehand.

The Terradine Natural Terracotta tile range is hand made and very traditional, they vary in shade and texture, many will have imperfections that are part of traditional characteristic of the natural clay, and natural imperfections will include surface flaws and minor cracks these should be used in a project to create a floor that will look old and rustic.

Question logo
Are these tiles OK for outside under a veranda?
Belinda Yates | 20 Jun 2018
Answer logo
Hi Belinda

These tiles are natural terracotta so fine for use externally. They are initially porous so will require sealing with several coats of the LTP Mattstone sealer to ensure they are completely weather proof.

Question logo
Our tiler wants to use HG tile sealee/impregnator. Is that OK? Should we coat with anything else afterwards if he uses this. We want them to be quite shiny rather than matt.
Belinda Yates | 21 Apr 2018
Answer logo
Hi Belinda,

The HG Impregnating sealer will be fine but you will need to keep applying the coats untill the tile is fully sealed. After sealing and grouting, no further treatments are required, however if you would like an optional sheen to deepen the colour and give a satin "just mopped" kind of look, you may like to consider using the HG Golv Polish as a finishing coat:

Question logo
Are these tiles suitable for a fireplace to put a wood burner on
Andrew Broughton | 14 Apr 2018
Answer logo
Hi Andrew

These tiles are fine for a hearth and will be suitable to stand a static wood burner on. However you must unsure you have a full coverage of adhesive beneath the tile (no voids) to ensue the weight is full supported. We would recommend fixing with the Palace Heat Resist Adhesive and sealing the Terracotta with several good coats of the LTP Mattstone sealer:

Question logo
What colour and type of grout do you recommend?
Ms Belinda Yates | 16 Jan 2018
Answer logo
Hi Belinda,

Thank you for your query.

Grout choice for these tiles can be a personal choice but we would normally suggest a mid to dark grey. It is very important to seal the tiles prior to grouting especially if using a dark colour grout. Use to seal the tiles after laying then they can be grouted with something like and if a shine on the tiles is desired then you can use

Kind regards,
