DESCRIPTION
A grey coloured fast setting flexible floor adhesive, suitable for ceramic, porcelain and natural stone tiles.
Our high quality, Kwik Flex adhesive is a cement-based, highly polymer modified, thin-bed ceramic floor tile adhesive, which conforms to BS 5980 Type 1 Class AA (BS EN 12004 Type C, Class 2FT). For fixing ceramic and porcelain FLOOR tiles, including mosaics, porcelain and vitrified tiles. This versatile adhesive can be used for fixing tiles onto timber panels, WPB plywood, waterproof composite boards and impermeable surfaces, such as existing tiles and powerfloated concrete, all without the need to include a flexi-additive in the mix. Kwik Flex gives improved flexural strength, water-resistance and it's recommended for applications over sub-floor heating.

Many thanks and kind regards Amanda
For application, the adhesive must used in temperatures no less than 5oC. The recommended temperature is 20, but if applied in warmer temperatures, may set a lot quicker. After the tiles are fixed and the adhesive is fully cured, it has a temperature resistance of -30°C to 90°C.

For 13 sqm we would recommend 4 bags. Each bag depending on the floor level will cover approximately 4-5 sqm.

Yes, the Kwikflex can be used for fixing floor tiles to walls in a decorative fireplace. However, if the fireplace will be used, house a wood burner or any other appliance that will give off heat, we would instead recommend using the Palace Heat Resist adhesive:

One 20kg bag will cover approximately 4 to 5 sqm of floor tiles depending on the flatness of the surface to be tiled and the size of trowel used.

Providing none of the Asphalt is loose or crumbly, this adhesive will be suitable. For preparation, it would need thoroughly cleaning and to aid the bond strength between the adhesive, a slurry coat applied. This can be done by mixing 1 part SBR primer to 1 part adhesive powder by weight and painting it over the floor. Once set, you can commence with the tiling.

Can i use this adhesive and tile directly onto a standard screed mixture of cement and sand or do i need to have some sort of base layer first?
Yes, this adhesive is excellent for use on sand:cement screeds. If it is a new screed, it will need to be sufficiently dry (curing time dependent on screed thickness), and the porosity may need to be reduced by applying a diluted coat of an SBR Primer, such as the Palace Tilers Primer:

Older sand and cement screed can usually be cleaned and tiled onto directly. But for concrete slabs or newly laid screeds we would recommend priming with a diluted SBR primer such as the Palace Tilers Primer, to reduce porosity and aid adhesion:

This adhesive is fine for most tiles, including any dark stone and Terracotta. What we would suggest as with any adhesive, that a skim of adhesive is also spread on the back of the tile to fill in any voids, as well as serration the adhesive to the floor. This will give a stronger bond and ensure there are no weak-spots or air pockets beneath the tile after laying.
On a flat floor, it can cater for a maximum final bed depth of 6mm (10mm in small isolated ares) which should be fine for evening out any tiles of irregular depth. However if for any reason you are likely to exceed this depth, we would recommend using the BAL Pourable One adhesive which can go to 25mm if required:

This adhesive has a pot life (from mixing) of 30-40 minutes at a normal room temperature (20 degrees). The time in which to bed a tile once spread (open time) is 10-15 minutes and the final set time is 3-4 hours..
If you require any further information, please call our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to help you.

This adhesive will cover up to 5 Sqm on floors and 8 Sqm on walls. The coverage is dependent on the trowel used for spreading, and the flatness of the substrate. With a full coverage of adhesive we would recommend 3 bags if tiling the floor and 2 bags for wall tiling.

I am applying Ditra 25 on to a plywood substrate and understand that one needs to apply an unmodified thin set to the plywood substrate and apply the Ditra 25 membrane ontop. However, Shluter specifies that an unmodified morter is required to tile onto the Ditra 25 membrane. Can this product be used both uinder and on top of the Ditra membrane. If not can you please tell me a sutiable unmodfied Morter to apply on to the Ditra 25 Membrane before tiling ?
"Unmodified thin set" is a specific adhesive made by Schluter only used in North America. However in the UK there are more in depth classifications of adhesive. The UK instructions for Ditra matting specify a C2 or S1 class of adhesive for both fixing the matting and laying the tiles on top. The classification for this adhesive is C2F so will be fine for use in you particular project.

What is the maximum thickness of this adhesive that can be applied to bed the tiles in?
As you can have sub floor heating that isn't anhydrate.
This adhesive can be used but requires 2 heavy coats of the Palace Tilers Primer first. the Gypsum in the screed is not compatible with Portland cement so requires the primer barrier. We also have the Norcros Tile To Gypsum Adhesive which can go directly on to the screed, but a diluted primer is still highly recommended to stabalise the surface before tiling:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/norcros-tile-to-gypsum-adhesive-22kg
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/toolshed-preparation-products-palace-tilers-primer-1-litre
The heating pipes from a water fed system can run through a sand and cement screed, or you also have the option of installing the screed first, followed by an electric cable system:

All wet areas should be tanked to protect the substrate from moisture damage. The BAL WP1 Shower kit we supply includes the acryllic primer, matting for a wet room shower base, jointing tape, and enough of the roll-on membrane to cover approximately 4.5 sqm. Only the areas that are in direct contact with water require tanking.

Yes it can. However this is a rapid setting adhesive so if you would like an adhesive that offers a longer pot life and more time for adjustment, the slow setting Stand-Flex may be more suited for wall tiling:

Walls And Floors
What is the maximum depth I can lay it to?
The maximum final bed depth of the Kwikflex adhesive is 6mm. You will either need to prepare the surface with the correct fall before installing the tiles, or you can use an adhesive such as the BAL Pourable One which can be worked to a maximum final bed depth of 25mm:

This adhesive is indeed suitable for external use, however there is no adhesive that I am aware of that will be guaranteed for use on tarmac due to the petroleum content and coefficient of thermal expansion. As per British Standards, the recommended surfaces of external solid bed floor tiling is either a concrete slab or a sand:cement screed.

Walls And Floors
The Kwik-Flex would be a suitable adhesive for walls in most situations, however due to the high temperatures behind a log burner we would advise using the Palace Heat Resistant adhesive which has been specially designed with stoves and log burners in mind:

It depends on how level the substrate is, which tile is being installed and the trowel being used for application. However, we'd expect an average of 4-5sqm for floors and 6-8sqm for walls.

Using adhesive as grout is not recommended. It can be extremely difficult to clean off the tiles and is much coarser so will be almost impossible to keep clean. Grouts are far more resistant to bacteria, moisture intake and staining on finished joints.
