#CountdownToChristmas 1 Week – Quick Fixes and Gift Ideas

countdown to Christmas quick fixes

Ho ho ho! There’s only one week left in the #CountdownToChristmas. If you’re like me and you leave everything until the last minute, then you’ll find this post very useful! Why? Because it’s full of fantastic and affordable last minute gift ideas, along with a healthy helping of quick fixes for around the house. If you’re having guests over for the festive season, and you’re a little embarrassed about your dated décor, then these quick fixes will really come in handy.

First, a look at some last minute gift ideas…

Say it with Scrabble this Christmas

I know I mention Scrabble Tiles a lot, but I’m completely in love with them. Modelled on the popular family board game, they’re made from ceramic, and are perfect for spelling out words, names or quotes! They can be framed and hung on the wall, stood up on a shelf or mantelpiece, or turned into coasters and scattered across a table top. Therefore, these versatile little knick-knacks make for fantastic gift ideas! Here’s a guide I wrote, for turning your Scrabble Tiles into gifts… Scrabble Tiles – A Perfect Christmas Present.

Make a Tiled Tray

Perfect for giving to a loved one (or for keeping for yourself), tiled trays are a great way to brighten up an interior space. If you’re not using it to serve tea or to eat your dinner off, you can simply sit it on a side table, and arrange a decorative collection of candles or ornaments on it.

Making this gift couldn’t be simpler (I made it, in case you need reassurance). Simply buy a tray from Dunelm, give it a lick of paint (if you’re not happy with the colour it comes), choose a mosaic tile and order a sheet or two, and then glue them in place! For extra shimmer and sparkle, which is what Christmas is all about, choose an iridescent mosaic tile. Here’s a guide: How To Make A Tiled Tray.

Once you’ve got your gifts sorted, it’s time to turn your attention to your home! If you’re entertaining guests over the festive period, you want your interiors to look their best. You don’t want your visitors to be faced with the same dated décor as last year and the year before.

10 Quick Living Room Updates

If you’re entertaining guests this Christmas, you’ll likely be spending time in the living room – so it’s a good idea to get them looking fresh and interesting. Don’t worry – nothing drastic. Just simple changes such as adding a new lamp, introducing an ottoman, stacking chopped logs in a crevice to create a cosy woodland theme. I’ve put together 10 Quick Living Room Updates, so go and take a look!

10 Easy Improvements for the Kitchen

The other place your guests are likely to visit is the kitchen – whether it’s to have a chin-wag whilst the kettle’s brewing, or to help you cut up the brussels. Therefore, the kitchen needs a quick refresh, too. Again, nothing too daunting. You could try adding a few sea-faring ornaments to help build a nautical them. You could add a quick splashback behind a cooker or sink to inject a bit more personality. Even dotting Scrabble Tiles around the room can help to add a bit of personality! I’ve put together 10 Quick Updates for a Kitchen, to help give you some ideas.

Re-kindle your love for the fireplace

If you’re lucky enough to have a fireplace in your living room (which a lot of new builds don’t – including mine), then you should flaunt it! A well-dressed fireplace can be the main focal point of the entire room. Plus, in winter time, it’s nice to have a fireplace crackling away, even if it’s an artificial electric model.

To get your fireplace guest ready, simply dress it up with tiles. I’ve put together 7 Stylish Fireplace Tiles to help transform your fireplace this winter.

I hope this gave you some ideas for fixes around the house, and for last minute gifts!
