Create A Wild West Living Room

Cacti Living room

Create a Wild West theme

If you flick through interior design magazines, you’ll have noticed an abundance of cacti appearing in interior settings. This is down to one of the latest interior trends – ‘Wild West’ – the idea of creating an Old West, cowboy and Indian theme in your home. Warm reds and orange accent colours are the call of the day, with a background of cool, sandy pale beige. Red throws and terracotta pots make for perfect accent pieces.

Introduce cacti, to help enforce the theme. Western deserts are riddled with cacti of different shapes and sizes. Buy the real thing (a low maintenance plant that doesn’t need watering for 6 months of the year) or go for a larger-than-life ceramic alternative.

We love this cacti jewellery stand from Oliver Bonas, £26…

Remember the craze of putting antlers on your wall? To fit in with the Navaho Wild West trend, you can buy wall-mountable faux buffalo skulls, such as the one above from Alice and the Bear! Perfect for injecting some frontier appeal into your living room.

When it comes to seating, these sun-bleached sling chairs from Ralph Lauren Home have a very western feel. Sit two or three on a Native American rug to create a themed chill out zone.

Play time: Wigwam playhouses are all the rage when it comes to hideout dens for the kids. They look great in the garden, but they can also be set up in the living room! Give your children their own play corner, whilst cleverly strengthening your Wild West theme.

Creating the perfect backdrop

When it comes to piecing together that gorgeous, desert-esque backdrop for your wild west theme, tiles are a robust, long-lasting alternative to wallpaper or laminate. These striking Stone Masonry Hexagon Tiles consist of a warm, sandy shade with Native American geometric shapes etched into them, perfect for bringing a living room wall to life.

Don’t forget about those floor spaces! For a white-washed look, try these Vintage Wood Effect Tiles. They’re alive with a textured wood grain effect.

Alternatively, for a floor tile with a rich, warm hue, try these Beige Stone Tiles. With creases criss-crossing the surface of the tile, they almost have the appearance of bleached hide – ideal for piecing together a wild west floor space in your lounge.
