Sean’s Geometric Kitchen Transformation: Customer Style Focus

Sean recently won our Unlock Your Dream Home competition with his incredible kitchen transformation! He used our Contour Hexagon Tiles to create a statement background.

How would you describe your room before you decorated it, and what made you decide to decorate?

Small, dated and basically unusable! When we bought the house there weren’t any kitchen units or appliances so we knew that we had to install something new and to our taste. We built an extension and wanted some unique tiles for the new large splash-back.

What inspired the look you went for in the room?

The house had barely been updated since it was built in 1958, so we wanted to bring it up to date with something really special. The style for the rear extension is industrial modern as we wanted to reflect Manchester around us. The tiles pulled together the kitchen colour scheme that we’d had picked our for a while.

What drew you to the tiles you chose?

As we decided against kitchen wall units, the tiles needed to both stand out and work well with our floating shelves. These tiles are so unique that we fell in love as soon as we held the sample against the wall!

Did you do the tiling work yourself, or did you hire a tiler?

We hired a great tiler called Trevor to do the whole house, he’s incredibly patient! There weren’t a lot of basic patterns or styles for him too do in the house and he mastered them all.

What part of the project did you find the most challenging?

We all had to plan out the pattern carefully to make sure that the hexagons fit correctly and the right shades of grey lined up. If you stare at it too long its easy to lose the pattern and you need to start again! The customer project photos and reviews on your site helped us out a lot here.

Have you had any compliments on your project, from your family and friends?

Yes everyone! We’ve renovated the whole house and the kitchen is everyone’s favourite room. Everyone has complimented our bold choice with these tiles.

After this project, do you have any more decorating projects lined up around the house?

We’ve just finished renovating our entire house so it’s time to put our feet up for a while!

What would you say to people who are thinking about buying tiles from Walls and Floors?

I’d definitely recommend Walls & Floors. We made a total of 5 or 6 orders including samples and didn’t need to use anybody else for our house. We had one issue with a cracked delivery and Walls & Floors sent out a replacement the same day, you can’t ask for much more from an online tile company.
