Walls and Floors Sponsor Up-and-Coming Archer, Alex Currums

Exciting news! We recently sponsored our first athlete – Alex Currums, a 21-year-old archer who is currently competing in the Archery National Tour and has recently qualified to compete in the Commonwealth Championships! Last month, Alex visited us to meet the team and see how we operate, and we sat down to find out a bit more about her…

Alex, who is from and lives in The Wirral in the North West of England, only started archery at age 17; which is a lot older than most would start competing in a sport. Funnily enough, her talent was discovered purely by chance, when she practised archery as a scout leader and surprised everyone at how much of a natural she was!

Fast forward 5 years and Alex is competing in the Archery National Tour all around the UK and hopes to make it to Team GB for the 2028 Summer Olympics in LA. Just last week, Alex was officially selected to shoot in the Commonwealth Archery Championships of Europe at the end of August! This is something she has dreamed of for a very long time, and also happens to fall on the 5th anniversary of her archery journey beginning.

As you would expect with this level of competing, Alex spends most days either training or in the gym (archery requires a huge amount of upper body strength – at 42lbs, the bow is surprisingly heavy and stands as tall as Alex when strung!). But when she’s not juggling archery, the gym and her job, Alex loves to bake and having tried some of her bakes, we have to say archery isn’t her only talent! She also enjoys watching rugby, and when you look at her kit, you’ll see a black and yellow theme and lots of adorable wasps as a nod to her favourite team, Coventry’s ‘Wasps’.

We were truly fascinated to hear all about the sport from Alex, there’s so much that goes into it and, having had a go ourselves, it definitely takes a huge amount of skill and determination to get to Alex’s level.

If you’d like to keep up with Alex’s journey, you can follow her on Instagram at @alexarchery00. We hope you’ll all join us in wishing her huge good luck!
