Question logo
Can you use these tiles for outside as it only mentions inside on your descriptions. Are they anti slip?
Jacquie | 19 May 2019
0
Answer logo
Hi Jacquie

These tiles are a full-bodied porcelain victorian quarry effect, meaning they are frost proof can be used externally. They have an R9 anti-slip rating but we have also had them independently tested to HSE requirements and they have been classified as low risk for external wet conditions. However, we would always recommend obtaining a sample to test and ensure the finish is suitable for your personal requirements before making your final decision.

If you wish to discuss your project in more detail or to arrange samples or a quotation, please call our Sales team on 01536 314730 or request a call-back via the link below, and they will be more than happy to help you.

How do these tiles fare under wet conditions? I am concerned that they might be prone to slipping.
Katherina Bruh | 13 May 2019

Answer logo
Hi Katherine

These tiles are fine for external use and wet conditions. They are frost resistant and have an R10 anti-slip rating. We have also had them tested to HSE requirements and they are considered to have a low-risk slip potential in the wet.

However, we would still recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the finish is suitable for your personal requirements, before making your final decision.

Website states tile Id 13072 is 150x150x8mm but on the back of the tile the label says 150x150x9mm - which is correct?
Jason | 11 May 2019

Answer logo
Hi Jason

These tiles are 8mm thick and it would appear there is an error on the labelling system, which we will amend ASAP.

We apologise for any confusion but thank you for bringing this to our attention.

Question logo
Hi
Where can I find the border tile for these quarry tiles please - I need black/white.
Thanks
Diane Maddock | 26 Feb 2019

Answer logo
Hi Diane,

The borders used in the image are Gosford Black & White Border, which can be viewed here:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/gosford-tiles-black-white-border-tiles

Due to the nature of full-bodied tiles, there can be minor variations in the shade between borders and plain tiles and would recommend obtaining samples to compare before making your final decision.

Question logo
Would these be suitable for a fireplace?
Oli | 4 Dec 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Oli,

These tiles are full bodied porcelain, so extremely heat resistant, hard wearing and would be ideally for around a fireplace or on a hearth. We would recommend fixing with the Place Heat Resist adhesive and grouting with the Norcros 4 Into 1 Grout, which is also heat resistant:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/palace-heat-resistant-tile-adhesive-10-kg
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/norcros-4-into-1-grout

We would recommend obtaining a sample of the tile to ensure you are happy with the colour and finish before making your final decision. Samples of the grout are also available should you wish to compare.

Question logo
Hi, do these tiles need sealing?
Harriet Williams | 16 Oct 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Harriet,

Even though they are "quarry tiles" in name, they are actually made of porcelain which is an impervious material. Therefore it is not essential to seal them. However, being unglazed, it will make it easier to clean if an application of the LTP Grout and Tile Protector is applied before grouting. A further application can then be applied after grout to seal the grout joints which helps against staining and moisture absorption:

A Cefai | 14 Oct 2018

Answer logo
Hello and thank you for your enquiry,

These tiles come in from the factory in square metre packs of 44 tiles. However we can split packs to give you the exact number of tiles you require, should a full box be too little or too much. We give you the option to order by the square metre or by the number of tiles.

Hi Sarah,

I have passed your details over to our sales team. They will contact you by email shortly to establish your requirements and will be able to work out the quantities you will require. What would help when they email, is if you can provide a diagram with the measurements of the area that you intend on tiling.

Hi, I need these tiles for a path outside my house, just like your photograph. In your description you say suitable for kitchen, hall way or living area. Does this mean I can't use them outside?
Gary Oliver | 21 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Gary,

These tiles are a full bodied porcelain tile designed to mimic the old original victorian style quarries. This make them completely impervious to moisture and frost resistant so they will be perfectly fine for external use.

Question logo
Hello, could you tell me if quarry tiles are suitable for a bathroom and would I need to seal them?
Many thanks, Claire
Claire Marshall | 19 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Claire

Despite being called quarry tiles, these are actually a full bodied porcelain. This makes them impervious to moisture without the need to apply a sealer and perfectly fine for wet areas. They also have a micro-textured surface which gives them which gives them sufficient slip resistance in wet conditions.

I have these on my front yard and love them - but can you put them on a wall around a wood burner? ( not just as hearth?)
Abi | 9 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Abi

Yes you can. They are extremely heat resistant and as an example of how resilient they are, they have even in the past been used on the bases of Pizza ovens. For your installation, we would recommend fixing them with the Palace Heat Resist adhesive:

Can I buy the triangle half tile or do I have to cut a full tile
Peter | 24 Apr 2018

Answer logo
Hi Peter,

These tiles are only available in the square version, but can be cut to manually create the triangles or whatever shapes you required for the design. A wet cutter with a diamond blade will give the best finish.

I'm looking at laying these tiles in black and white outdoors. What type and colour grout would you typically use if mixing contrasting tile colours?
Bianca | 23 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Bianca

The most popular colour for both black and white tiles, or for external use is grey. Cement Grey is a good colour to compliment both colours and is also one of the most resistant to discolouration.
