Smells a bit, so defo need to use in a well ventilated room. It really didn’t change the look of our tiles when it was dried. I was sceptical, but it was fab!

My friendly tiler has said to give all the terracotta tiles three coats of sealer on all sides (front, back and edges), so I had not ordered enough.(it says differently on the Walls and Floor web site web site) It definitely needs to be applied in a well ventilated area. But hopefully does the trick in the long run, have managed to do almost thirty tiles with my two litres...just 48 more to go!!...when more sealant turns up.

Really brought out the depth and contours when applied to the natural slate tiles I purchased. Really looking forward to grouting them now they are sealed.

Can travertine tiles be used in a conventional shower room (not wet room?) Other suppliers I have talked to say it is possible but not advisable. But your advertising photo specifically shows the tiles in a shower application.

Hi Alistair,

Travertine tiles are fine for use within correctly prepared wet areas. As with any tiling project, it is essential that walls are of suitable construction, to hold the weight of the tiles. Plaster or plaster skim can only hold a maximum of 20kg per sqm, whereas bare unskimmed plasterboard (32kgs) or a backer board such as HardieBacker (over 100kgs) would be more suitable.

The substrate also needs to be made waterproof by using a suitable tanking system, such as the Ardex WPC:

The tiles need fixing with a White flexible adhesive (Stand-Flex) and also require sealing both before and after grouting, with either the LTP Mattstone or the LTP Colour Intensifier:

Question logo
should quarry tiles be grouted before the sealer is put on ?
brian leonard | 10 Oct 2018
Answer logo
Hi Brian,

For any tile that requires sealing, it is recommended to give them a coat before grouting (to aid grout removal and prevent potential staining) and after grouting (to ensure the tile is sealed and to also seal the grout). The porosity of most quarry tiles is usually quite low, so only very thin applications with a microfibre cloth will be required for full protection.

Question logo
how big an area will 1 litre cover ?
Andrew Daniels | 4 Apr 2018
Answer logo
Hi Andrew,

The coverage will depend on the tile porosity and how many coats will be required. As a rule, 1 litre will average 10 sqm per coat, sometimes more depending on how porous the tile is and how much will sink in. As a general guide, quarry tiles will only need on coat - marble, travertine, limestone, slate 2-3 coats - handmade terracotta up to 5 coats. However there is an element of trial and error as you continue to apply the sealer until the tile will not allow any more.

I hope this helps but if you wish to discuss your project in more detail, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
