DESCRIPTION

Palace Heat Resistant Tile Adhesive (10kg) is a fast setting (final set 2-3 hours), high early strength adhesive that is used for fixing tiles to wall or floor surfaces where there is a high source (should not be used where temperatures exceed 250°c) of non continious heat in the home such as stoves, fires and heaters. It is also suitable for use with vitrified and porcelain tiles. The adhesive is supplied in 2 x 5kg air tight sachets packed in a plastic bucket which can be used as a mixing vessel when required.

Coverage on average is 2.5kg per sqm for flat tiles on walls and 4kg per sqm for fixing heavy-duty studded floor tiles.

This adhesive has a pale grey colour.

Is this grout as well or do I need to buy separate?

Hi Siobain

This is just an adhesive. But for heated areas, we also recommend the Norcros 4 Into 1 Grout which is heat resistant up to 150'C:

Can this product be used to bond granite directly to Supalux fire resistant board?
Thank you
Mark Goward | 26 Jul 2018

Hi Mark,

These boards are calcium silicate which can be tiled to directly with the Palace Heat Resist. As these type of boards can vary in design from one manufacturer to the next, it would be advisable to check the porosity to determine whether priming would be required before tiling. If they are extremely porous, prime with a diluted mixture of the Palace Tilers Primer:

Question logo
Hello, I would like to tile behind a wood burner using slate tile, the gap behind the wood burner to the wall is 250mm and is open, the sub straight behind the wood burner is 1/2” plaster board and skim, can I fix the slate direct to the plaster board with your heat resistant adhesive. The wood burner is only 8 kw. Many thanks Richard
Richard Tull | 3 Jul 2018

Answer logo
Hi Richard,

Firstly, plaster skim can only hold a maximum of 20Kgs per sqm, whereas slate and a bed of adhesive would be closer to 28-30. So the skim will need to be removed. Plaster board can hold 32kgs so would be fine, but in heat sensitive areas as per Building Regulations Document J, it must be A1 Fire Rated which standard plasterboard isn't, so therefore classed as a combustible substrate.

Replacing this with a non-combustible A1 board (such as Hardiebacker) and ensuring there is nothing combustible behind it, the minimum gap required to the wall is 150mm. If you wish to keep the standard plasterboard or if there are combustible materials in the wall structure, you will need to speak to the manufacturer of the stove for recommendations but may be a minimum required gap of around 400mm.

Providing the recommendations of the Building regulations are met, both natural slate and the heat resistant adhesive will be fine.

Question logo
Can I use this adhesive to tile the outside of a wood burning pizza oven? I expect this gets pretty hot and suspect it exceeds 250 degree celsius? If not, is there an alternative?
Phil | 21 Apr 2018

Answer logo
Hi Phil,

The maxiumum temperature this adhesive will operate at is 250oC. So is aimed for use around fire places, wood burners, stoves, hearths etc. If this temperature is likely to be exceeded we do not have a product suitable. However another company that specialises in fire resistant products is Vitcas: https://www.vitcas.com/

Hi Jodie,

This adhesive dries in a pale grey colour. It is also rapid setting so can also be used for natural stone. If you wish to discuss your project and find out if the adhesive is suitable for a particular tile, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and we will be more than happy to assist you.

Question logo
Hi, What colour is it ? Need something to stick your copper slit face slate tiles behind a woodburner so I probably need something brown?
Gerald | 29 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Gerald,

This adhesive is a pale grey colour, however as the tiles butt up together like the mosaic pieces the form the tile, the adhesive should not be noticeable, even though they do not require grouting.

The Ledgestone tiles are hand made so there may be the occasional small gap that adhesive can press through. But if it does, we would advise removing the excess with a thin blade knife before it has a chance to set.

Question logo
Hi there, would this product be suitable for securing brickslips (so brick - not tiles) to the inside of a fireplace which will house a wood burner & therefore be subject to reasonably hot temperatures?
Many thanks.

Question logo
Can this adhesive be used on ply floor to secure slate tiles?
Martin Thomas | 29 Nov 2017

Answer logo
Hello Martin,

The important thing is to consider the fire risk of using wood in a heated area. Secondly, if being laid onto a working hearth, the Heat Resist Adhesive should only be used for fixing tiles onto solid masonry surfaces or cement board such as Hardie Backer (link below) which are stable when exposed to high temperatures. Unfortunately plywood would not be a suitable surface as it will expand and contract with the temperature fluctuations.
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/hardibacker-board-james-hardie-tile-backer-board-9317

However, if the area will not be subject to high temperatures, the plywood can remain and we'd suggest the Uniflex as a suitable alternative adhesive:
