DESCRIPTION

Create a statement floor in your bathroom, kitchen, hallway or lounge with these striking Scintilla Sapphire Tiles. They have a vintage monochrome design, with aged-effect blue and white star shaped patterns. Made from durable ceramic, these tiles have a matt finish with a grid scored into the surface, which you grout into. They're perfect for creating a vintage scheme in an interior space.

What's special about these tiles?

> They have an eye-catching star-shaped geometric pattern

> Slightly aged effect, ideal for creating a vintage look

> Perfect for adding a statement floor into any room

> Suitable for use with underfloor heating

> Made from ceramic so easy to clean

> More scratch and stain resistant than wooden flooring

Grouting into the scored grid

These tiles have a grid scored into their surface. Once you grout these scored lines, each tile looks like four separate tiles. We recommend using 2mm tile spacers between tiles for a groutline consistent with the scored line. When it comes to which grout to use, it comes down to your own personal taste, but customers tend to use a mid grey colour from our Mapei Ultracolour Plus Tile Grout range

What grout and /or adhesive would you recommend for these tiles and what quantity for 4m square coverage?
Zoe Shakespeare | 9 Oct 2019

Hi Zoe

Adhesive wise, if the floor is perfectly flat, you will only require 1x20kg bag of a cement-based adhesive such as our Kwikflex (rapid setting) or Stand Flex (slow setting). We advise a fine joint grout such as the Norcros 4 Into 1 in any colour of your choosing:

HI, Can these be used outside?
julia warner | 11 Aug 2019

Answer logo
Hi Julie

These tiles are ceramic so we would not recommend these for external use. The closest range we have in porcelain is the Astral Star range, however, these are not certified as anti-slip so there will be a potential risk of slipping if walked on in wet conditions. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the texture is suitable for the anti-slip requirements of yourself and others who are likely to use them, before making your final decision:

Question logo
We love the tile sample & would like these on our bathroom floor, do you have ideas of wall tiles that would complement them? Thanks
Claire | 6 May 2019

Answer logo
Hi Claire

There are many different possibilities depending on if you want to blend the colours or go for a contrast. To keep the retro feel, a combination of Metro tiles in white and blue could work well, for example, the White Chapel and the Knightsbridge:

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/metro-200x100-tiles-knightsbridge-blue-tiles

It will ultimately depend on your personal preference and a style you are hoping to achieve, but if you wish to discuss your project in more detail or to arrange samples or a quotation, please call our Sales team on 01536 314730 or request a call-back via the link below, and they will be more than happy to help you.

Question logo
Are these scintilla tiles suitable for a porch which is outside the front door. A covered roof but open on two sides? So it will get some rain on it.
Melissa | 15 Mar 2019

Answer logo
Hi Melissa

These tiles do give a reasonably good amount of slip resistance, however, the water is not the problem. Being ceramic, they are not guaranteed against frost resistant, so although it is unlikely there will be a problem, over time, there is a chance they could start to craze or crack.

Question logo
Are these tiles suitable for using behind a wood burning stove? Thanks
Rachel Shilliday | 14 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Rachel

These tiles are flooring grade ceramic which makes them dense and naturally heat resistant. They are therefore suitable for burner surrounds or even hearths. When tiling in a heated area, it is important to use a suitably heat resistant adhesive, such as Palace Heat Resist:

Question logo
Hi, what colour grout with these please?
Ked | 8 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Ked,

The colour of grout you go for is entirely down to personal preference. The brown lines on the tiles are grooves that can be grouted over and when combined with the main grout joints, gives the appearance of smaller individual tiles.

Within our Norcros 4 Into 1 Grout Range, we can now provide colour samples. We would recommend obtaining a sample of the tile and a selection of grout colours, to compare before making your final decision:

I'm a little confused about the dimensions of these tiles. Is each individual one 450mm x 450mm? Looking at the picture shown, they look far smaller, judging by the shower controls and the soap & sponge on the floor there.
Ed McCoy | 10 Oct 2018

Answer logo
Hi Ed,

These tiles are 450x450, however they are split into 4 quarters, with a score line in both directions which is intended to be grouted over to give the appearance of smaller tiles. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the design is suitable for your personal project.

Question logo
Could these be used on a wet room floor?
Gayle Boulton | 9 Sep 2018

Answer logo
Hi Gayle,

These tiles can be used in wet areas and have sufficient texture to be used on a wet room or shower floor. However it is important to keep the tiles clean to allow them to provide adequate slip resistance. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure you are happy with the texture before make your final decision.

Question logo
Would these be OK as the tiles behind a wood burner with the right adhesive?
Belinda Matthews | 30 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Belinda,

These tiles are a very hard grade ceramic tile so naturally heat resistant and fine for use around stoves and log burners. We would recommend the Palace Heat Resist for fixing:

Question logo
Can I use these tiles on the wall? If not do you have a range to complement them?
Suzanne Rollinson | 21 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Suzanne,

As well as floors, these tiles can indeed be used on correctly prepared walls. The weight of the tiles with approx. 4kgs of adhesive, means they are slightly too heavy for fixing to Plaster or Plaster Skim, but can be installed directly to bare plasterboard or the more suited Hardie Tile Backer boards:
