Hi,

Are these tiles waterproof? Would they be suitable for use on a wet room floor?

Thank you
Kate
Kate | 5 Jul 2019

Answer logo
Hi Kate

These mosaics are glazed porcelain so can be installed in wetrooms. However, they have a smooth finish and not certified as anti-slip. The matt finish and grout joint will help to provide a small amount of grip, but we would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the finish is suitable for your personal requirements, before making your final decision.

Hi, can these tiles be used in a shower? Thanks Jodie
Jodie Ross-Jones | 1 Jul 2019

Answer logo
Hi Jodie

These mosaics are porcelain and can be used in wet areas. If you intend to also use these on a shower floor, they do not have a barefoot anti-slip rating, however, the matt finish and multiple grout joints do provide a slight degree of slip resistance on wet conditions. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the finish is suitable for your personal anti-slip requirements, before making your final decision.

I'm thinking of creating a border with the bijou hexagon matt chequer - I just wanted to check that the white is the same shade as in the bijou white plain hexagon? Hope this makes sense! Thanks
Martha | 22 Jun 2019

Answer logo
Hi Martha

The chequered version is made from the same pieces as the plain white hexagons so would be the same. However, they are made in different production runs and the glazing process can sometimes create a very minor variation in shade, as is the nature of all ceramic and porcelain tiles. We would advise obtaining a sample of each from our current batches, to view in the intended area and to ensure you are happy with them before making your final decision.

Hi there.
What is the slip rating for the Matt/Gloss White Hexagon Mosaic Tiles. Many thanks!
Jeanette | 4 Jun 2019

Answer logo
Hi Jeanette

These tiles are not classed as anti-slip and therefore do not have a rating. However, the grout joints alone will provide a slight degree of slip resistance. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the finish is suitable for your personal requirements, before making your final decision.

How many sheets do I need for 5 m/s floor space please?
Katarzyna Orda | 8 May 2019

Answer logo
Hi Katarzyna

There are 10.25 sheets per sqm. So for your project that would be a minimum of 52 sheets. But if you have not included it already, we usually advise ordering 10% extra to allow for cuts and wastage, which is 57 sheets just to be on the safe side.

Can these be used on a wet room floor? We've got a small space and were thinking of using them instead of a shower tray
Katie | 10 Mar 2019

Answer logo
Hi Katie

These mosaics are glazed porcelain, impervious to water so can be used in wet rooms. However, while the grout joints and matt finish will provide a small amount of grip, they are not classified as an anti-slip tile. Although we would usually recommend a CAT B or C anti-slip tile for domestic showers, the slip resistance requirements will vary from one individual to the next, so would urge that a sample is obtained to test suitability for your needs, before making your final decision.

Question logo
I am using the 'Matt White Hexagon Mosaic Tile's on my worktops and I would like the tile and grout to be flush, is this possible?
Maureen Hurst | 4 Feb 2019
0
Answer logo
Hi Maureen,

It is possible but extremely difficult to achieve. The problem is that when cleaning the grout off of the surface with a sponge, it will rake off a small amount taking it below the level of the tile surface. Another couple of ways would be to apply the grout, so it sits proud of the mosaic, and either sand it down to the correct level, which runs the risk of damaging the face of the tiles — or scrubbing the tiles over with the grout stain remover and an emulsifying pad until the correct depth is reached.

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-cleaning-protecting-ltp-tile-grout-stain-remover

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/ltp-maintenance-tools-black-emulsifying-pad

Whichever method is attempted will be time-consuming and not guaranteed to work.

Hi

How suitable are these tiles for kitchens? I am particularly thinking about ease of cleaning and whether staining would be an issue. Also, it is suitable for behind a gas hob? If not, we can still use the tiles for between wall and floor kitchen cabinets. Thanks

Answer logo
Hello and thank you for your enquiry.

These mosaics are fine for use in a kitchen, including as a hob splashback. The tiles themselves will not stain and can be cleaned by simply wiping over them with a damp cloth. However, we would advise sealing the grout to prevent discolouration, using the LTP Grout & Tile Protector:

Answer logo
Hi Amelia,

The exact quantity required would be 31 sheets. But if you haven't done so already, we advise allowing an additional 10% (4 sheets) for cuts and wastage.

The mosaics mesh is not required but can help by keeping the sheets rigid and making them much easier to install.

I need a white straight edged tile trim to use with these tiles ... is the 6mm suitable or will this be too deep? Thanks
Simon | 23 Jan 2019

Hi Simon,

For thin mosaics, the 6mm trim can work, however they will need bedding up to the appropriate height which can be done with a slightly thicker bed of adhesive. Alternatively we are able to order 4mm stainless steel trims within a few day. Question logo
Hi Are these tiles suitable for a wet room floor? Thank you.
Su | 12 Jan 2019
0
Answer logo
Hi Su,

These tiles can be used in wet rooms in that they are porcelain and completely impervious to water. However they do not have an anti-slip rating, so the combination of the matt finish and multiple grout joints, will help give a sufficient amount of grip for most customers. But we would advise obtaining a sample to ensure the tile is suitable for your personal requirements, before making your final decision. If extra slip resistance is required, we would advise tiles and mosaics with a CAT B or C rating.

If you wish to view samples or discuss other suitable ranges, please call our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.

If you are still going for the white mosaics and brown is a colour you are trying to fit in to your project to compliment the surrounding area, you could also consider using a brown grout, of which we have several shades in our Mapei Ultracolour Grout Range:

Can you use a decoupling membrane such as Dural DuraBase CI++ under these small mosaic tiles? The floor is mainly new screed on top of underfloor heating, but there are wide thresholds which are of a different material and not level.
Stephanie Gwatkin | 10 Dec 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Stephanie,

Because of the cavities contained within some decoupling membranes/vapour barriers, they limit the tile size to no less than 50x50mm, due to concerns with point loading. That would apply to the Dural Durabase and the Schluter Ditra matting.

However, we can provide another uncoupling matting called BAL Rapid-Mat, which would be compatible with smaller mosaics. It is much thinner, but has the same de-coupling function. This is not available through our website, but if you call our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to help you.

Hi Jamie,

These mosaics are porcelain so fine with underfloor heating. If you are using an electric cable system, we would recommend encasing the cables in a levelling compound to promote even heat distribution and to give a flatter and easier surface to tile on to. We would also suggest a slow setting adhesive to allow sufficient time for any minor adjustments that may be required:

Answer logo
Hi Dave,

One 20kg bag with a 4mm mosaics trowel and a perfectly flat surface will cover up to 8-10 sqm, so one bag should be enough. We'd recommend a slow setting adhesive such as Standflex to give you plenty of time for adjustment and to minimise adhesive wastage.

Hi Dave

Mosaics are fiddly to cut but it's still relatively easy. The best way would be to score the tile where you want to cut it using either a manual tile cutter or scribe, and chip away up to the score line using a pair of tile nippers. If required you can give the edges a file to take out any imperfections:

Hi Lara

These mosaics will withstand foot-traffic in all domestic areas without problem. However occasionally dirt or grit could get caught at the bottom of a shower which if dragged across any tiles surface, can potentially leave a mark which is liable to be more visible on white tiles but not guaranteed against by any tile manufacturer.

Hi Sarah,

Grout colour is down to personal preference so using grey will be fine. The main roomset image is done in a charcoal black to give an idea of the look when using darker grout. We would recommend obtaining a sample of the mosaics and a selection of grout samples from our Norcros 4 Into 1 Grout range before making your final decision:

How thick are these tiles?

Hi Felicity

These mosaics are 4mm thick. But when calculating finished depths, you also need to allocate 1-2mm for the adhesive bed.

Hello, what grout would you recommend to get this modern dark look like in your picture for the Matt tiles please? Also do you grout every hexagon or are they pre coloured in between on each tile? Hope that makes sense. Thank you

Hi Marlyn,

To recreate the look from the picture you can use a grout like https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/anti-mould-flexible-tile-grout-black-charcoal-anti-mould-tile-grout-10kg or https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/anti-mould-flexible-tile-grout-dark-grey-antracite-anti-mould-tile-grout-10kg and you will need to fill in each line between each tile on the mosaic sheet to ensure they are fitted properly as we all between each sheet as well.

Kind regards,

Question logo
Hello,
Will my tiler charge me a lot more for laying these tiles because the grouting of so many small areas is more labour intensive than laying large tiles? As a second question, are these tiles less likely to crack if the sub floor is less than 100% flat, than with a much larger tile?

Many thanks, Mary

Hi Mary,

These tiles will be fine for floor use. The tiler should ensure that the substrate is suitable to accept tiles and do any required preparation before fixing. Mosaics are as a rule slightly more expansive to fix but we would advise getting several quotes before choosing a tiler.

Are these tiles suitable for use in wetroom floors? Thanks in advance.
Claire | 2 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Claire

These mosaics have a matt finish which offers a degree of slip resistance when wet, that most customers find suitable for their own personal requirements. However we would advise a sample to ensure you are happy with the finish, and if in doubt, we would recommend a tile with a slip resistance rating of R11 upwards. Please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 for further information.

Question logo
Do mosaics need to be purchased with a plastic sheeting that needs to go on the wall before these? And also looking at a resin grout? Do these need that?

Hi Polly

These tiles can be laid without a plastic mesh, however you may find handling and installation easier if you do use one, as it keeps the mosaic rigid. Epoxy resin grout is not essential, but can be extremely useful in wet areas and steam rooms due to being the only type of grout that is completely waterproof as opposed to water resistant. However standard grouts will also be fine providing the correct waterproofing preperation is carried out before installation:

Hi, I'd like to use these tiles on my bathroom floor. Would they withstand the weight of a freestanding claw foot bath?

Hi Michelle

Yes, providing the tiles are laid onto a deflection free substrate and with a full coverage of adhesive, it will be fine. If you wish to discuss your project in more detail, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Question logo
Hi, When fitting this product what tile edge product should be used? Would a 6mm tile edge trim such as this below be suitable?

Thanks

Answer logo
Hi Jon

The mosaics are only 4mm thick and usually only use a very thin bed of adhesive. Therefore 6mm may be too deep unless you are able to evenly spread the adhesive to ramp up to the 6mm edge. Failing that, we are able to obtain trim in shallower depths including 4mm which would be more suited to this tile. Question logo
Can these tiles be used on the floor of a wet room shower?
Liz | 31 Jan 2018

Answer logo
Hi Liz,

Although the matt finish does give a slight degree of slip resistance, these tiles can still be slippery when wet. For wet room floors, we normally advise a tile with an R rating of R-11 or higher. If you require advise on this tile or a suitable alternative, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.
