The kitchen is an important part of the home, so it’s good practice to keep it fresh and functional! I’ve putting together the latest kitchen trends and ideas for 2017. Take a look…

kitchen trends 2017

1) Escape from the island

Islands have been popular in kitchens for a while now, but in 2017, you’ll see a lot less of them. Instead, dining tables are being introduced! This year, we’ll see less separation between the kitchen and the dining room. For many, the kitchen will become a place where you can eat, entertain, and hang out – and a dining table will be a key part of this. Personally, I love chunky rustic wooden farmhouse-style tables.

2) Warm copper tones

A major colour trend that surfaced in 2016 and continues to be prominent throughout 2017 is copper! There’s something about this warm metallic hue that adds a cosy sheen into an interior space. Stock up on copper kitchen accessories! There are even copper tiles available for a splashback or feature wall. My personal favourites are the copper patchwork tiles!

Top tip: Remember to contrast warm colours with cool ones. Copper tones are often paired with dark blues.

3) Concrete surfaces

Having walked around Surface Design Show 2017, I spotted a lot of concrete surfaces! From worktops and textured wall panels, through to concrete effect floor tiles. Concrete is cool, easy, durable, and perfect for welcoming that popular industrial look into your home.

4) Double up on the sink

If your budget and worktop space allows for it, why not add an extra sink into your kitchen? Or install a twin Belfast sink. One is often not enough! If you’re in a relationship, you can wash up together and half the time taken. Or, at a party, you can have one sink for the washing up, whilst the other is loaded with ice and drinks!

5) Go for a retro fridge

When it comes to choosing a fridge in 2017, the trend is to go for a retro ‘throwback’ model! Smeg is always a good choice and, if you choose the colour right, it will fit perfectly into a country farmhouse scheme.

6) Mad about marble

The big design trend in 2017 is marble. Natural stones, and the idea of ‘bringing the outdoors in,’ have been popular for some time now. But in 2017, marble is stealing the show; perhaps for its characterful veining, and its ability to instantly add a grand, exclusive look. Invite it into your kitchen this season. With marble effect metro tiles, marble hexagons, and gorgeous marble mosaics, you can create your own unique look.

7) Vintage patterns

Another kitchen trend for 2017 is the idea of introducing aged, vintage patterns. They're perfect for filling your kitchen with character! If the patterns look weathered or reclaimed, even better! This adds to the personality and charm. Create a statement floor or feature wall, and you're guaranteed to catch the attention of your guests as they step into the kitchen.
