This June, Walls and Floors turns 32! We've gone from humble beginnings to being one of the UK's biggest and best loved tile retailers!

Here's a look back at the last 32 years...

Discover Our Story

In June 1987, whilst Star Trekking was number one in the charts, Mr Greenbank and Mr Green started a tile business out of a small garage in Kettering, with a single van. Starting early in the morning and finishing late at night, they would drive up and down the country delivering tiles for trade projects.

In 1990, that garage was starting to feel a little cramped, so we moved into a small carpet shop in Sydney Street, Kettering, and purchased our first forklift truck, which meant no more heavy lifting! A year later, we opened our first tile showroom! It was a converted garage in Kettering, and we invested in the careers of lots of local people. You can still visit the showroom today.

In 2004, we launched the UK's very first transactional tile website - www.wallsandfloors.co.uk. Since then, it has grown to become the UK's most popular tile ecommerce site. Not long later, to keep up with massive demand, we opened our first warehouse, and purchased our first 18-tonne lorry. Today, this has expanded to an impressive fleet of 22 vehicles!

2010 saw the opening of our tile studio in Putney, London. Based in the heart of the country's architectural capital, the studio provides instant inspiration for designers and professionals. Two years later, we moved into our 100,000 square foot headquarters, which houses our many different departments; from the team that picks your samples, through to the technical experts that provide after advice for your full order.

In 2018, we have grown to be the UK's largest independent tile retailer, with over two million happy customers served! We won Best E-Commerce Website in the TTA Awards, and we entered the Internet Retailing Top 500!

32 years of caring for charities and communities

As a successful business, here at Walls and Floors, we love to give back to communities and charitable projects. Each month, we try to do our bit in providing for a needing, worthwhile causes. Over the last few years, we have worked closely with DIY SOS as their primary tile supplier, and have provided for a dozen projects throughout the UK.

Closer to home, we have recently donated the tiles for a mental health cafe, as well as a day centre for disabled individuals. Our departments often host fundraising runs, cake sales and mufti days to raise money for different charities, including a local animal shelter that was damaged during flooding. We also regularly provide scrap mosaic tiles to community art projects and, at Christmas, we donate toys and games to the Kettering children's ward, to bring some joy to the kids that are too unwell to spend Christmas at home. You can keep up to date with our Charity and Community Work here.

There you have it - a quick look at the last 32 years here at Walls and Floors! We look forward to the next 32 years, and hope to not only unlock a lot more dream homes, but to continue to give back to communities and charity projects around the UK.
