Living Room Ideas Using Tiles

In a room where we spend so much of our time, it’s important to ensure you implement a design you’ll love for years and years to come. The living room is your relaxation zone, where we spend our downtime catching up with friends or binging our favourite TV shows. There are many factors that go into designing a successful living room space. It has to be cosy and inviting, and be coherent with the rest of your home.

An important factor to consider will always be the lighting. Since we spend so much of our time in the living room, morning, noon and night, it’s vital to have ample lighting throughout to create the right environment for the time of day, especially in the colder months when it gets dark early.

It’s also incredibly important to consider the arrangement of your space. Plan this out carefully to ensure the layout you have in mind works and is what you dream of it being.

An unconventional and unique way of designing your living space is by implementing tiles. Its something we don’t consider often as people tend to stick to soft surfaces in the living room, but there is an array of benefits to using our beloved tiles. This includes things like their durability, their low maintenance and their water resistance.

Here’s our tiled living room ideas for a sophisticated and inviting space:

– Wood Effects With Rugs

When working with tiles across the floor space it’s often a concern that they’ll be to hard and tough, which we understand isn’t ideal for the living room space. To ensure you still feel cosy and warm with all the benefits of a tiled floor, introduce rugs to the area. You can chose from a range of styles, shapes and colours to work with our space, and can even layer rugs to create a unique space with depth and character. Rugs can add a lot more to a room as it’s another opportunity to make use of the colour scheme and style, to enhance the space.

– Using Tiles on the Chimney Breast

Another effective way of implementing tiles into your living room is to use them on your chimney breast. Ensure you select the right type of tiles for this job as some are not suitable for use across fireplaces. When you find the right tile you’ll find that the room is tied together to one spot, and the rest of the space complements the area. Whether you choose patterned or plain, it’s a very traditional method that can be adapted to suit your style. Having a fireplace in the living room can also create an incredibly warm and inviting space, welcoming you home after a long day at work, or after a cold and wintery walk with the family.

– Luxurious Wood Effects

Using wood effect tiles in the living room ensures you keep that snug and comfortable style with all the benefits of using tiles. Wood in the home is a classic way of creating a warm and inviting space, and so it’s perfect for use in the living room. You don’t have to compromise though, as here at Walls and Floors we have a wide range of wood effect tiles that complement living room spaces beautifully. Our examples picture this perfectly, and show off that even a grey wood effect can still create incredibly comforting living room ideas.

– Patterned Tiles

It’s a brave and bold choice to use patterned tiles across the walls and floors in the living room, but that’s why we love it! If you’ve been looking for the opportunity to show off your strong and fearless personality in your home, now’s the chance! Be adventurous and show off your wild side! Pick a versatile tile like the Osby Blue Patterned Porcelain Tile that can be laid in various methods to create an even more unique and exclusive style across the space. If the walls and floors seem a bit daunting to you, try using a patterned tile on the base of your fireplace, as we have in our example. This way you are still implementing that fun and exciting pattern, but in a way that isn’t too overwhelming.

– Modern Geometrics

Designing a modern space can have a bit of a hazy definition. It doesn’t necessarily have to be all greys and whites which is what we all seem to associate it with. Instead, using geometric patterns and shapes across the space can create a modern and contemporary feeling, to ensure that modernity is still there without it being too grey. For example, take a look at our Oaken Teal Oxidised Hexagon Tiles to see that to create a modern space you don’t have to implement multiple shades of the same one colour. The blue in this image compliments the tiles, and the hexagonal shape is what is enhancing that contemporary look and feel.

– Creating Coherence Between Different Areas

By using tiles you are also opening the opportunity to create a coherent and sophisticated design across the whole of your home. Choose a style of tile that can be used in the living room and implement it into areas around the rest of the home like the kitchen or bathroom. This works great if you have an open-plan living and kitchen space, as you can create a seamless transition between the two areas without splashing out on different types of flooring.
