Are the Samanea Suar tiles and Royal Oak oak wood the same? For a more realistic plank look (like floorboards) I would like to mix the two if they are compatible. The catalogue suggests this, but as one is porcelain and the other ceramic, I'm not sure.
Claire | 3 Oct 2019

Hi Claire

We would not suggest mixing the two ranges. The ranges that are suggested have the same design, but in alternative sizes depending on your personal preference.

If you wish to discuss your project in more detail or to arrange samples or a quotation, please call our Sales Team on 01536 314730, and they will be more than happy to help you.

Wanting to do a thinner tile up the wall as skirting instead of traditional wood is there a tile exactly same colour but half width that would enable us to do this? Thanks
Mrs Sally Daynes | 20 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Sally,

This particular tile is only available in the single size. However an alternative range that may be of some interest to you is our Vintage Wood Planks range which come in widths of both 237 and 157mm:

Question logo
what is the grout gap-looks like they are butted up to each other?
john dobson | 6 Nov 2018

Answer logo
Hi John,

The images have been provided by the factory to give an overall look of what to expect in terms of tile design and do not necessarily a recommend way of fixing. We would not advise butting the tiles. The minimum recommended grout joint for floor tiles required by British Standards is 3mm, although some previous customers have used 2mm in smaller areas without any issue.

The grout joint offers a buffer as tiles can expand and contract with temperature fluctuations. With tiles butted up and with no room to expand, that can put pressure on them and cause them to crack or shear from the adhesive.

If you would like to discuss your project in more detail, please call our sales team on 01536 314730 and they will be more than happy to assist you.

Question logo
How many different variations are there for this tile? The 3rd photo clearly shows the same design (knot locations) on 3 of the 4 planks.
Mark | 16 Oct 2018

Answer logo
Hi Mark,

These tiles are printed at random from a master canvas, therefore similar characteristics in markings will be visible every 5-6 tiles. Before physical fixing, we recommend loose laying the tiles so that you can achieve a good blend in pattern and shade so that instances such as the ones in the image are less noticeable.

Question logo
Are these tiles the exact same colour/style as the smaller oak wood tiles?
Sally Green | 12 Oct 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Sally,

These tiles are the large version of these ones https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/rustic-wood-tiles-oak-wood-tiles However as they are made at different times and with slightly different patterns there will be variations in shade and the grain effects. For a more accurate idea, why not order a sample?

Question logo
I know these are floor tiles but can they be used on walls too?
Di | 14 May 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Di,

These tiles can be used on a wall as well as a floor. You will would need to use a cement based adhesive to fit them, one like this https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/toolshed-tile-adhesive-kwik-flex-grey-floor-tile-adhesive (1 bag per 5square tiles of tiles) and for the best effect we suggest using a dark grey grout with a narrow grout line between the tiles.

Question logo
What is the slip resistance rating of these tiles (eg R10)? Thank you in anticipation.
Ian B | 13 Feb 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Ian

These tiles have been slip tested to different standards and do not have an official R rating. However they have been given a Class 1 Rating under ENV-12633 which is a PTV result of between 15 and 35. This means they are safe in dry areas but can pose a moderate slip risk if used in wet conditions. We would recommend obtaining a sample to ensure the finish is suitable for your particular project.

Question logo
Hello, are these tiles fully stain/water resistant? We need to replace a wooden floor that has been stained with cat urine!
Vivienne Barclay | 21 Jan 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Vivienne,

These tiles are a glazed porcelain and completely impervious to moisture so would be fine. However most grouts are only water resistant and meaning water can still sink in, but will not break down. If you wish for the grout to be completely impervious to, you may wish to consider using epoxy grout such as the Kerapoxy Design:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/mapei-kerapoxy-design

Question logo
What is the pattern repeat for the oak wood plank tile?
C Tremlett | 31 Dec 2017
0
Answer logo
Hello and Thank you for your enquiry.

Each of these tiles are printed from a random position of a master canvas. So the knots and grains will vary on each but may be noticeable in a different position every 6-8 tiles. As with any varying design, we recommend loose laying the tiles before fixing to ensure you have a satisfactory mix of tones.

Would these tiles be suitable for a chimney breast. I have a wood burner (cassette) and the wall above the fire gets very hot.
Julia | 25 Dec 2017

Answer logo
Hi Julia,

These tiles are porcelain extremely heat resistant. However, we would recommend the use of a heat resistant tile adhesive such as the Palace Heat Resist:

Question logo
What colour grout would look best with royal oak tiles to blend tiles together as using in all downstairs areas and would like them to look like a wooden floor? Also what adhesive would be best?
Mr Andrew Cheeseman | 22 Nov 2017

Answer logo
Hi Andrew,

Grout colour is down to personal preference. The two most common colours for this range are the Ultracolour Cement Grey 113 which will provide a subtle contrast, or the Ultracolour 136 Mud which will be a closer blend to the browner tones and grain in the design:

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/mapei-ultracolour-plus-grout-ultracolour-plus-113-cement-grey-tile-grout
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/mapei-ultracolour-plus-grout-ultracolour-plus-136-mud-tile-grout

Adhesive wise, you will require a cement based floor adhesive. Our Kwikflex is suitable for most substrates.

https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/toolshed-tile-adhesive-kwik-flex-grey-floor-tile-adhesive

If you wish to discuss your project, please contact our sales team on 01536 314730 and we will be more than happy to advise you further on the correct materials.

Question logo
Hi - do you do an oak effect plank suitable for exterior use with slip resistant properties?
Helen Allen | 7 Nov 2017

Answer logo
Hello Helen and thank you for your enquiry.

Whilst this tile can be used outside it does not really have sufficient non – slip properties for an outdoor application. We have 2 comprehensive ranges of wood effect tiles that are suitable for outside use with non-slip options available in https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/vintage-wood-plank-tiles or https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/wood-effect-tiles/muniellos-wood-effect-tiles.
