Welcome to the Walls and Floors Interior Design Course! I’m Callum Chester – editor of the Walls and Floors Blog. Over 6 sections, I’m going to teach you some interior design essentials! Here’s a summary of the course…

Part One: The Design Analysis

In this part, we’ll look at putting together a quick brief of the decorating project you’re undertaking. This will help you to address any functions the room needs to cater for, and it will also look at what parts of the room can and cannot change. Go to Part One.

Part Two: Finding Your Style

In the second part of the course, we will be looking at finding your own personal style. This will help to create a room that is completely personalised to your own tastes. We’ll create a Pinterest board made up of room settings that catch your eye, to help identify the looks you like most. Jump to Part Two.

Part Three: Choosing Your Colour Scheme

In the third section of the course, we’re going to look at identifying the colours from your chosen style. We’ll also look at the basics of the colour wheel (which helps you find contrasting and complementary colours), as well as understanding a bit about colour psychology. Jump to Part Three.

Part Four: The Importance of Texture

In this part, we will look at how texture can help to bring your interior scheme to life. We’ll look at ways you can introduce texture into your homes; through the use of cushions, throws, rugs, tiles, etc. We’ll also create a mood board of different textures in your chosen colour scheme. Part Five: How to Source Products

In the penultimate part of the course, we’re going to use our Design Analysis to work out which products we can afford to buy, and which existing products we need to keep. I’ll also suggest some fantastic, trendy and affordable websites to buy from! Jump to Part Five.

Part Six: The Finishing Touches

Now that you’ve decided what products you’re going to use in your room (based on your chosen style, colour scheme and the textures you like), I’ll show you how to bring it all together. We’ll look at tiling tips for the wall and floor spaces. We’ll look at ideas for injecting your scheme into existing furniture. And we’ll look at adding those final accessories and styling touches.
