Reasons to Buy Splashbacks
What is a splashback?
If you’re been browsing the internet for a new kitchen look, then you might have come across the term ‘splashback’ or ‘backsplash.’ If you’re unsure what a splashback is, then allow us to explain. Imagine you’re running the tap full blast, and the jet of water hits an up-turned spoon in the sink, and sprays everywhere. Or, imagine you’re slaving away at the frying pan with fat spraying up everywhere. Rather than allowing stray specks of liquid and hissing pan fat to sink into the wall area behind your work space, it’s a good idea to introduce a splashback. A splashback, therefore, as you might have guessed, is an easily-wipeable surface that stands behind a cooker or sink. It can be a large glass screen, a sheet or aluminium or, if you’re a little more creative and unique than that, your splashback can consist of ceramic or porcelain wall tiles!
Make a stylish statement
Sometimes a splashback simply stands directly in the space behind the cooker or sink, and doesn’t cover any more ground than that. Sometimes a splashback can cover the entire wall space between the work surface and the underbelly of the overhead cupboards. In both cases, the splashback covers a sizeable chunk of wall space – so it offers the perfect opportunity to inject some interest and personality into your kitchen.
As your guests step into the room, an eye-catching splashback will be the first thing they see – so get creative! Choose a striking tile design or colour that reflects your personality. Experiment with layouts; tiles don’t need to be set out in a row-and-column grid format. You can opt for an overlapping brick-bond design (think of a brick wall). You can go for a striking Herringbone pattern. You can stand square tiles on their tips, and transform them into diamonds! Have fun – be playful – show off your creativity in your splashback.
Metro tiles are a timeless classic when it comes to decorating a kitchen or bathroom wall space. They first came about in the underground stations, at the turn of the 20th century, where different colour combinations were used so that passengers could recognise the stations. Since then, they have never really been out a fashion – and least of all now! You’ll find metro tiles in all of the UK’s trendiest homes, hotels and restaurants. If you want to invite them into your own swanky residence, a splashback might be a good place to house them!
There are hundreds of brick and metro tiles to choose from. There are different size formats, in matt and gloss finishes, with dozens of colour ways. There are different shapes – brick-shaped, mini brick, elongated brick-shaped. There are both bevelled and smooth options. There are crackle glazed options. There’s even bumpy, ‘rustic’ designs. As we said – an absolute multitude to choose from. So you’re guaranteed to find the perfect design to match your personality.
If you’re looking for a traditional glass sheet splashback, don’t worry – we can cater for that, too. We have a select of hardened glass kitchen splashbacks; ideal for fixing to the wall behind your sink or cooker. We have mono designs (consisting of blacks, silvers, whites and a sparkling galaxy option), bright designs (bold reds, greens and purples), and muted designs (softer colours – browns, beiges and teals). There are three size formats for each splashback, with a matching upstand. And upstand is a thin glass strip than hugs the work surface on either side of your splashback; creating an edged skirting border.
