Also suitable for light traffic commercial floors, that are walked on by regular traffic (e.g. entrances, commercial kitchens, hotel, exhibition and sales rooms).

DESCRIPTION

Bring your walls to life with these Dark Rustic Tiles. They have an eye-catching multi-levelled weathered slate appearance. They're suitable for internal and external application. Unlike our natural slate Splitface Mosaic Tiles, these glazed porcelain Vesuvius Split Face Effect Tiles can be used in shower areas and wetrooms, and do not require sealing.

Were you looking for something slightly darker, and without the rustic weathered effect? Try our Charcoal Tile; it has the appearance of clean black slate. Alternatively, for a lighter approach, take a look at our Light Rustic Tile.

What's special about these tiles?

> Textured characterful surface
> Lifelike slate effect design
> Suitable for internal and external use
> Made from durable porcelain

Question logo
hi what is the best adhesive and grout colour for these tiles? Also is it best to cut with wet saw or small hand held angle griinder?
Euan Halket | 28 Sep 2019

Answer logo
Hi Euan

For the adhesive, we recommend the Stand Flex adhesive. This is suitable for most substrates, but please contact us for further advice on what preparation is required.

The tiles weigh approx 25kg including the fixing materials. Plaster can only support 20kgs per sqm, but bare unskimmed plasterboard (32kg limit) or Hardiebacker (100kg+) would be suitable backgrounds:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/tile-preparation-sealants/hardiebacker-board-james-hardie

Grout is down to personal preference, but we have found the Norcros 4 Into 1 Slate Grey to be the best colour to blend in with the multiple shades within the tile. Samples of the grout colours are available should you wish to compare before making your final decision:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/norcros-4-into-1-grout

For cutting, either a wet cutter or angle grinder will be fine (angle grinder is my personal favourite), although, for dry cutting, a blade specially designed for porcelain will be required:

We are looking to file a curved patio wall - do your tiles come on netting to accommodate the curve ??
Thank you

Answer logo
Hi Karen

This is a complete tile and not on a mesh. However, we do have natural slate mosaics that can also be used externally, available on a mesh backing:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/natural-stone-mosaic-tiles/zibo-slate-mosaic-tiles

Natural stone is porous, so the mosaics will require sealing during installation using either the LTP Mattstone or the LTP Colour Intensifier:

I am planning on putting these tiles on a straight rectangular wall so I am guessing you cut off the two over hangs, also what tile edging would you recommend?
Kay | 9 Mar 2019

Answer logo
Hi Kay

These tiles are glazed porcelain, so if the tiles are cut, it will leave an exposed porcelain edge. So we would recommend finishing with a tile trim. To be in keeping with original Splitface tiles, the thickness varies from 8 up to 10mm thick so you would need a 12mm trim to cover the thickest point and to allow for the depth of adhesive:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/tile-trims/metal-straight-edge-trims/new-toolshed-aluminium-straight-edge-trims

We now provide samples of this trim range should you wish to compare before making your final decision. Hi,
Can these tile be used behind a log burner?
Thanks

Answer logo
Hi Laura,

These tiles are glazed porcelain, so fine for use behind wood burners. However as with any tile for this situation, we would recommend they are fixed with a suitable heat resistant adhesive and grout:

Question logo
Hello, we are thinking of putting the Dark Rustic Split Face Effect Tiles in our kitchen, however there are 2 socket points to go round, can the tiles be cut around them? Thank you, Dawn Smith
Dawn Smith | 7 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Dawn,

Yes they can. As with any wall tile, the tiles can be cut to cater for wall fixings. For sockets, the easiest way to cut these tiles would be to use an angle grinder with a diamond blade suitable for cutting porcelain, such as this Rubi TCR blade:

What grout colour do you recommend to best disguise the joints?
David Riley | 7 Sep 2018

Answer logo
Hi David,

We would suggest medium grey as the best colour to go for. There is no exact match due to the varying colours within the tile, but the mid grey grout tones really do help when attempting a seamless look. Our Norcros 4 Into 1 grout would be a good range to consider, with the Steel Grey being the favourite among previous customers. But grout colour samples are available from this range, should you wish to compare against the tiles before making your final decision.

Question logo
We are intending to install these tiles to the inside of our new shower enclosure. It’s obviously that with these tiles there is not supposed to be a grout joint, in order that the desired appearance is achieved. With the tiles simply butted together, is there a risk of water penetrating the butted dry joint? Is there a requirement for treatment to the substrate wall before the tiles are installed (if they are installed onto plasterboard for example)?
Joe | 10 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Joe,

These tile being an interlocking porcelain split-face effect, they will give a small 1-2mm grout joint that does need grouting. It is the natural slate version that is butted together and is not intended to be grouted, but we do not recommend them in shower areas, which is why this porcelain version is a good realistic alternative.

Regardless of what tile is used in a shower, we always recommend tanking with the Ardex WPC or similar waterproofing product.

We have purchased these tiles for around our wood burner and will have an exposed edge when fitted around a corner. Can you suggest how we will cover the exposed edge or a suitable edging product.
Janet Lucas | 1 Apr 2018

Answer logo
Hi Janet,

The most popular and in my opinion best looking finish is to use a silver straight edge trim, such as this:

Hi Nicky,

These tiles can be used around a log burner when fitted with the Palace Heat resistant adhesive:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/palace-heat-resistant-tile-adhesive-10-kg

We have many suitable range that would also work. Here are a couple of alternatives with a similar splitface effect:
