Top 9 Wet Room Ideas

Wet rooms have become an increasingly popular design choice within homes in recent years. They can be the perfect option for those among us with a smaller bathroom space, or an area that you’re not sure what to do with. Wet rooms can provide a spacious shower area and a high-end, luxurious look and feel. They’re also accessible to everyone, and so much easier to clean that a traditional shower. Here are our top wet room ideas to give you a bit of inspiration:

1 – Consider Underfloor Heating

When designing a wet room its important to consider ways to keep the room warm and dry. We suggest considering underfloor heating in the surrounding areas. Underfloor heating is great for heating the whole room up effectively, and perfect for getting out of the shower and needing something to warm you up. We think stepping onto a nice toasty floor is one of the best feelings! There are a wide range of tiles available that are sure to be suitable for both wet rooms and for use in conjunction with underfloor heating, so you don’t need to worry about finding two separate complimentary tiles for the two areas. We’ve used Carbon Light Grey Concrete Effect Tiles to create a truly coherent and seamless space across the whole bathroom.

2 – Use Pattern to Zone the Shower Area

Many wet rooms adopt a simplistic look, as beautiful as they are, we love pattern here at Walls and Floors! If you’re apprehensive about implementing pattern across the whole of your space, try creating zones by using pattern. With our Mizuki™ Fern Terrazzo Ceramic Tiles, we’ve created a separate shower zone by deploying the tile across the whole of the shower space, whereas elsewhere in the bathroom its just been used across the floor space. This separates the two areas visually, and creates a distinguished separation while still having the areas work hand in hand and complement one another.

3 – Use Wood Effect In Your Bathroom

We know it seems incredibly unconventional, using wood in the bathroom is something we tend to stay away from, but we have a huge selection of wood effect tiles that are ideal for a bathroom space! Wood can create a really sophisticated and warm atmosphere in the home, so we believe the bathroom is the perfect place to feature a bit of wood, even if it’s wood effect! Wood effect tiles are much easier to clean and disinfect than the real thing, meaning its suitable for use across wet rooms and walk in showers. Our Hamptons Lime Washed Wood Effect Tiles create a really classy and elegant space, complementing the wet room area beautifully.

4 – Go Bold with Intense Colours

Wet rooms create the perfect opportunity to get creative with how you design your bathroom space. They allow you to be more free with the tiles and sanitary ware you implement in the room. From vibrant greens to cool blues, we think injecting colour is the ideal way of creating fun and characterful spaces. On the contrary, with an equal amount of personality, you could opt for a bold and intense black scheme across the space. This shows bravery within design, and allows the wet room area to blend into the walls by using black hardware, just like we have with our Form Platinum Polished Tiles.

5 – Create Shelving For Extra Storage

When looking at ideas for wet rooms you may notice they tend to have a lack of storage for all your soaps and shampoos. When you build your wet room, ensure you create a little shelf or cut out to store these bits and bobs, so they don’t end up in a mess on the floor. If this isn’t an option for you, invest in a really good shower caddy that hangs from the wall, so you have easy access to all the essentials in the shower! For our Achilles Storm Fish Scale Tiles, we’ve implemented a shelf across the whole wall space that makes for an ample amount of shower storage.

6 – Carry Your Tiles on Across the Whole of The Space

Whatever tiles you decide to use across the area of your wet room, try implementing them across the rest of your bathroom space for a seamless and coherent space. We’ve continued our Mizuki™ Fossil Terrazzo Ceramic Tiles up into the sink area of this bathroom. This creates a transition from the walk in shower to the sink area. This can be done in an array of methods, whether its with patterned tiles or plain ones.

7 – Compliment With The Rest of Your Space

If you’ve designed the rest of your bathroom first, or have certain features in mind that you know you want to implement, make sure you use walk in shower accessories to complement these features. Whether its a certain bath matt or toilet, your walk in shower needs to work alongside it. We’ve implemented a lot of matt black hardware to our bathroom with Whitechapel Gloss White Metro Tiles. So, to work with these matt black features, we’ve been sure to use a matt black shower and shower screen. This creates an incredibly coherent space, and ensures the whole room works together and not against itself.

8 – Keep Your Floor Interesting

When designing walk in showers the flooring is often overlooked and becomes an afterthought. We believe it should be the other way round. Consider your flooring options first and work the rest of your space around this. Opt for something exciting like a bold pattern or fun colour. Or, like we have, maybe a funky shape, like these Tephra Dusted Moon Hexagon Mosaic Tiles. The hexagonal design of these tiles ensures a certain contemporary feel across the bathroom space, with a geometric charm throughout the whole room. When choosing your floor tiles, ensure you do your research into wheter or not the tiles are suitable to be used in a shower space. They require an anti slip rating of R11 or R12. If you’re unsure of whether the tile you have in mind is suitable for wet rooms, be sure to get in touch and ask our friendly team!

9 – Create Variation Across The Walls

If the plain and simple look is a bit too boring for you, but you’re nervous to go too crazy with splashing pattern across the space, consider something like stone effect, marble or even our Raku tiles. Our Raku tiles have lot’s of variation within their face, and create a beautiful natural look across any wall space. Suitable for use in the shower and beyond, you can be sure to create a coherent space packed with depth!
