DESCRIPTION

Bring a wall to life by introducing these stunning Charcoal Split Face Tiles. They're perfect for creating a textured feature wall in any kitchen, bedroom, living area or bathroom. They have the appearance of traditional slate splitface mosaic tiles - with staggered levels and thicknesses. They belong to our range of Liguria Splitface effect Tiles and are made from porcelain. For a closer look, order a sample tile.

Since real natural slate split face tiles aren't suitable for use in showers and wet rooms, these porcelain split face effect tiles are the perfect alternative option for wet spaces!

Question logo
Hi, do you recommend butting these together on a shower wall or is a spacer with grout recommended?
Mark Wheatley | 5 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Mark,

For all ceramic and porcelain wall tiling a minimum grout joint of 2mm is recommended to help with moisture resistance and as a slight movement buffer. We would recommend the use of the Norcros 4 Into 1 grout, with the Slate Grey being the closest colour to compliment the shading on the tile:
https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/norcros-4-into-1-grout

Samples of the range of grouts are available should you wish to compare other colours, before making your final decision.

Question logo
Im wanting to use these tiles outside, would these be ok and also can anyone recommend the best adhesive to use if so? Thanks.
Thomas Sim | 13 Aug 2018

Answer logo
Hi Thomas,

The tiles are frost resistant porcelain so fine for external use. They can be tiled onto good condition brick although it would be advisable to render first to give a clean flat surface to work with.

Any flexible cement based adhesive would be fine but a slow setting adhesive such as Stand Flex would be much easier to use and gives more time to make any minor adjustments:

Question logo
Does this style have external corners. If not how would i deal with this as i do not want to fix a trim on my chimney breast.
David Gibson | 21 Jul 2018

Answer logo
Hi David,

These tiles are commonly used on chimneys without trim. Most people tend to tile the return walls flush to the front edge of the chimney and butt the joint to the back edge of the front facing tiles. However it is also possible to gauge the tiles for thickness and mitre the edges to give a closer to seamless appearance.

Hiya these tiles look like on your picture that there is a bit of a brown effect. Your tile picture just looks all grey. Can you confirm which colour best decribes these tiles as don't want btown/ gold effects just grey
Michelle Althorp | 4 Mar 2018

Answer logo
Hi Michelle,

These tiles are grey and do not contain any brown. The room-set image is due to be updated but we would still advise obtaining a sample to ensure you are happy with the colour and finish.

Can I use these tiles around a fireplace?
Michelle | 27 Feb 2018

Answer logo
Hi Michelle,

These tiles can be used around fire places and wood burners. We would advise fixing them with a heat resistant adhesive such as Palace Heat Resist:

Question logo
I have received a sample tile and it appears to be very shimmery is this intentional?
Jeni | 25 Jan 2018

Answer logo
Hi Jeni,

These tiles are predominantly matt but have a faint speckle in the glaze which emulates the quartzite that is naturally contained in some slate. They also have a similar riven texture which is common with natural split face tiles.

Question logo
Hi,
Could you please kindly advise whether these tiles are all grey or do they have brown on some splits, as the photo shows both?
Thanks, Gail
Gail Wray | 16 Jan 2018

Answer logo
Hi Gail,

Thank you for your question.

The tiles are different shades of grey and each tile will be slightly different in regards to the pattern

There is a slightly brown shade of grey that does appear sometimes.

Kind regards,

Question logo
Are these tiles straight edged, or do they have staggered interlocking edges to create a more natural joint line?
Brinda Assi | 9 Jan 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Brinda,

The splitface effect tiles have a straight edge which can be staggered at random lengths to hide the joint as much as possible. The Vesuvius range has an interlock, or there is the option (depending on the area to be tiled) of using the natural slate interlocking splitface:

Do you need to grout these tiles?
Phil Newing | 28 Dec 2017

Answer logo
Hi Phil,

These are a glazed porcelain tile and unlike the natural slate split face, these tiles do require a 1-2mm grout joint. To make the joint look as seamless as possible, the BAL Micromax 2 Smoke tends to be one of the more popular choices:

I am interested in the Liguria splitface effect tile to use in my bathroom around the shower area. Please could you advise if there is a matching plain tile to use alongside and on the floor?
Gill | 1 Dec 2017

Answer logo
Hi Gill

These tiles look fantastic in wet areas either as a feature wall or using on multiple walls, there is not a matching plain tile, but we do several coordinating ranges with complimentary plain tiles and floor tiles, some examples below:
