QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS (17)
A shower screen can be installed over these, but to hold it in place it may require screwing. If this is the case the tile will need drilling with a specialist diamond drill bit. Due to the texture of the tile, and baps between the frame and the tile can be filled as normal with silicone.
Another way would be for the screen to be installed and sealed to the wall first, with the tiles cut up against it with a further bead of silicone along the cut edge.

These tiles are made from durable porcelain and like the vast majority of tiles are water resistant but not water proof. They have a water absorption rate of below 0.05% making them fine for outdoor use as well as for interior projects. We do strongly suggest the tiles are grouted when installed using a 2mm grout line, a grout like https://www.wallsandfloors.co.uk/mapei-ultracolour-plus-grout-ultracolour-plus-113-cement-grey-tile-grout-12933 would be a good match but it is ultimately a personal choice.
Kind regards,

How much should I leave for total thickness of tile and adhesive? Would these be ok to fit straight to an unrendered 7.3N medium density block?
Thanks
Mark
It depends on the trowel you are using to apply the adhesive but the bed depth is unlikely to come out any further than 2-3mm. We also advise a back skim of adhesive on each tile to fill in any voids.
Tiling to blocks is fine but they tend to be very porous, so we would recommend priming the surface with a diluted solution of an SBR primer prior to tile installation:

Although the tiles are fine for outdoor use and would stick to the cement boards fine, it is possible that there can still be movement, expansion and contraction in the wooden frame due to environmental changes, which would have an affect on both the cement boards and tiles. It is a British Standards recommendation that external wall tiling is installed to a solid surface such as brick, render or concrete, so while other methods may work, there would be no guarantee as to its longevity.

When these tiles interlock, there will be a small space for grout at approximately 1mm. Rather than using standard spacer crosses, you will have more flexibility using spacer wedges which allow spacing from 0-5mm:

Although it is preferred to render the wall first, it is possible to tile directly onto concrete block following a couple of diluted coats of a suitable SBR Primer to reduce surface porosity, then using a flexible cement based adhesive:

I want to use the charcoal Vesuvius for a feature wall, what plain tile would you recommend to coordinate with on wall and floor in a bathroom ?
Thanks Helen
Thanks.
Due to the size and being Porcelain, you will require a cement based adhesive. Our Standflex is suitable for most substrates with the correct preparation, but if you would like any further guidance, please contact us on 01536 314730 and we will be more than happy to advise you:

When the tiles are interlocked together, it leaves a slight gap which we recommend grouting. The colour of which is difficult to match exactly but the Tornado Grey is one of the most popular complimentary colours:

Because these tiles are glazed, they do not require sealing. However depending on the area they are installed, you could aid cleaning and protect the grout by using the LTP Grout & Tile Protector:

As these tiles are a split face effect made from porcelain rather than natural slate, they are fine to use in a shower area. We do suggest they are fully grouted with an anti mould water resistant grout, in your selected colour.
Kind regards,
Walls and Floors
These tiles when interlocked will leave a slight gap. It is recommended to keep the uniform distance of 1-2mm around the tile and fill with grout. Based on past order, the Mapei Ultracolour Anthracite is a very popular choice:

These are a slate effect porcelain and don’t contain glue like the natural handmade Split face tiles and are therefore fine for areas of excessive heat. We would recommend fixing them with the Palace Heat Resist adhesive:

A trim can be used to finish and protect the edge. The style of which is down to personal preference but we would recommend the square edge for a neat finish.
