Sealing and maintenance

Due to the porosity of natural stone the do require sealing. The need to be given a few coats before grouting and a further coat after to ensure they are well protected.

To keep the tiles their natural colour you can use the LTP Mattstone, but if you require to slightly deepen the colour, the LTP Colour Intensifier can be used as an alternative.

To increase the longevity of the seal, ongoing maintenance and cleaning can be carried out using the LTP Waxwash

Can you recommend a standard set adhesive for laying these tiles on a cement based floor.

Hi Jason

Our Standflex is ideal for concrete or cement screeds, as well as some natural stones such as slate:

Good Morning Sir, I'm looking at your 'Random Country Farmhouse Multi-Colour Slate Tiles'. On the web page there seems to be one sample a darker shade than the other? Is that the case or is it just the light? If it is the case how do you distinguish between the two? If you could let me know please.
Many thanks,
Howard Cheetham

Hi Howard,

Natural slate can vary from one batch to the next. The lighter tile is similar to the lightest shades we have had in the past, but the second image is more representative in terms of colour, of the tiles we currently have in stock.

There are also multiple methods of sealing that can alter the final appearance. The LTP Mattstone will leave the tiles their natural finish, whereas the LTP Linseed Oil will heavily deepen the appearance:

These tiles were laid in my kitchen and passage a few years ago a few have now cracked and needs replacing do they still manufacture the 13 X 13 file and if so where can I purchase them.

Kind regards

Hi Mariam,

The random layout contains 20x20, 20x40, 40x40 and 60x40cm tiles. As far as I am aware, the exact range has never included a 33x33cm (13x13in) version. However the 60x40 version is available separately and can be machine cut to create the replacement size you require:

Should you wish to discuss this further, please email images of your existing slate to sales@wallsandfloors.co.uk and we will be more than happy to help you.

Question logo
can these tiles be used in a wet room. ( shower enclosure )
Jane | 22 Sep 2018

Answer logo
Hi Jane,

Yes they can. On walls, because of the weight they will need to be installed onto a backer board such as Hardiebacker, coated with a waterproof tanking system. On the floor in a wet room, the preformed tray would also need to be waterproof and the edge taped and also tank.

With all the correct preparation done, the tiles can be installed using a cement based adhesive such as out Stand Flex and the tiles must be sealed with the LTP Colour Intensifier both before and after grouting:

I have a 12 by 12ft kitchen
How much would that cost
Baz | 27 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Baz,

12x12ft equates to 13.46 sqm which comes to £443.51 inc VAT and free delivery. We would advise order 10% extra to allow for cuts and wastage.

Question logo
Why do the tiles have a matte finish in the first photo and a glossy finish in the second?
Sophie Wiltshire | 13 Feb 2018

Answer logo
Hi Sophie

The difference here is the sealer used. Being natural porous slate, sealing is required both before an after grouting to prevent staining. The LTP Mattstone once dried, will show the tile in its more natural colours, however a further of of the LTP Ironwax Satin or Gloss will increase the shine to give the tiles a shinier "just mopped" look:
