Natural Slate Tiles Ideas from Walls and Floors
If you’re decorating a room in your home, and you want to inject a chic, stylish and contemporary look, why not try slate tiles? Out of all the natural stone varieties available, slate is by far the trendiest; with its rustic, rugged, textured appearance and (usually) dark, modernistic, atmospheric shade. We have a fantastic selection of natural slate tiles to choose from…
Splitface slate tiles
Split face surfaces are appearing in the trendiest establishments the UK has to offer; from swanky restaurants, through to five-star hotels. If you’re unsure what the term ‘split face’ means, allow us to explain. A split face or ‘splitface’ design consists of several lengths of material (usually slate), cut to various heights, widths and depths, and fused together to create a staggered, multi-levelled, textured surface.
The latest Surface Design Show, which showcases all of the latest looks and trends for wall and floor surfaces in commercial and domestic settings, was full of textured splitface surfaces. As mentioned above, they are usually made from slate pieces but, more recently, are made from reclaimed wood.
At Walls and Floors, we have a striking selection of natural slate tiles in a splitface mosaic design, for your consideration. From dark designs that you might find it a trendy, cutting-edge bar, through to lighter whites, which might clad the walls of an upmarket spa. If you’re looking for something with that extra bit of character, we even have rustic options; alive with oxidized orange highlights - perfect for creating a weathered appearance in a kitchen or bathroom.
Split face tiles make for the ultimate kitchen splashback. Don’t know what a splashback is? It’s the surface that stands behind a cooker or sink, to protect your walls from any stray specks of water or pan fat. Some people go for boring plain glass sheets as their kitchen splashback; but you can be a little more unique, and introduce a characterful split face splashback; full of texture and charm. Natural slate tiles really come to life if they’re highlighted using the right downlighting, or a carefully angled overhead spotlight. With a bit of creativity, you can really make your splashback a showpiece.
Get the farmhouse look using natural slate tiles
In Britain, we love going back to our roots; that’s why, when we say ‘the traditional look,’ it refers to a simplistic, stripped-back rural theme. Or, as it’s sometimes called, ‘the country farmhouse look.’ When trying to achieve a farmhouse kitchen or bathroom, you’ll need two things:
Firstly, you’ll need some bumpy metro tiles for the walls. These will ensure you capture that gorgeous aged quality that the farmhouse look requires. Try our Country Cottage Metro Tiles, and use a Herringbone layout for added interest.
Secondly, you’ll need some rustic floor tiles. Natural slate tiles work best, for an authentic farmhouse scheme, as porcelain stone effects weren’t available, back in the day. For the floor space of your country kitchen or bathroom, we recommend using our Country Farmhouse Slate Tiles. Available in black and multi-coloured designs, they have a textured riven skin, and come with a multi-sized layout option; ideal for adding extra charm and character to those traditional floor spaces.
