Can these cork floor tiles be used with underfloor heating?
Georgia | 5 Feb 2019

Answer logo
Hi Georgia

These cork boards can be used with underfloor heating, but it is crucial that if an electric cable system is used, there is a layer of 8-10mm of levelling compound installed to give even heat distribution and prevent hot-spots, and with both electric or water-fed systems, the floor temperature must not exceed 28C.

For further information on this product, please call our sales team on 01536 314730 or you can refer to our Corkboard installation guide:

Are these cork tiles compatible with underfloor heating?
Isabel | 28 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Isabel,

These boards can be used with underfloor heating, but the floor temperature must not exceed 28 C (82 F). We would recommend that an electric cable system is installed and encased in 10mm of Self Levelling Compound before the boards are laid:

Hi, what kind of varnish are these tiles finished with?
Theo | 12 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Theo,

These tiles come pre-sealed with an acrylic/water-based, UV resistant varnish. For wearability and extra protection from spillages and regular cleaning, we advice an additional coating of the Ronseal Varnish, which is also water based:

Question logo
Hi, are these sealed and if so then what with? If not, what would you recommend for a bathroom?

Thanks

Answer logo
Hi Theo,

These boards are sealed with an acrylic, UV resistant coating. However, as per our fixing guide (link below) it is recommended to avoid moisture contact. People have installed them in well ventilated bathrooms before without issue and although they would not be guaranteed due to the varying humidity conditions, the best chance of a successful installation comes from giving the boards an additional two coatings of a water-based sealer such as the Ronseal Diamond Hard Floor Varnish.

Hi - could these be used on a wall instead?
Suzie Blundell | 2 Jan 2019

Answer logo
Hi Suzie,

These boards, although designed as a floating floor system, can also be installed on walls in dry internal areas. Due to the size of the board, the wall would need to be perfectly flat before fixing the boards with the Corkabond adhesive:

Do I need a PE sheet when laying cork floating tiles on concrete?
Vincent | 23 Sep 2018
0
Answer logo
Hi Vincent,

If the screed already has a DPM sheet installed within its construction, a standard foam underlay for laminate flooring will be fine. If there is a concern regarding damp in the screed, then a polyurethane sheeting can be used to suppress rising moisture.

For a kitchen how do you work out how much buffering neede and do you sell it? Or can I use silicone as I have done very successfully in my bathroom? Thanks
Jennifer Gray | 9 Jul 2018

Answer logo
Hi Jennifer,

The expansion strip need to be installed around the perimeter where the cork meets a wall. We can supply the strips which come in packs of 18 and cover 10.8 linear metres. Alternatively, to can leave a 5mm gap around the perimeter and fill with silicone:

Would this flooring be suitable for a kitchen?
Laura | 27 Jun 2018

Answer logo
Hi Laura,

These can be used in a kitchen. For extra durability and stain resistance, we would recommend a couple of additional coats of a water based varnish, such as Ronseal:

Hi, would these be suitable for a bathroom?
Annabel Maguire | 23 Feb 2018

Answer logo
Hi Annabel,

These cork boards can be laid in bathrooms but we would advise to keep them as dry as possible. A few precationary measures you can take are to lay them on a moisture resistant underlay, seal them further with two coats of a water based flooring grade varnish (this will ensure the joints are sealed and further protect against moisture ingress) and use bath mats in the immediate wet areas.
