5 Outdoor Living Trends to Make the Most of your Garden

Make the most of your garden spaces by expanding your living space into those outdoor areas! We’ve gathered together some outdoor living trends – perfect for creating relaxing environments to bring family and friends together – along with some tips on how you can achieve them!

1) Outdoor kitchens

Now, more than ever, people are looking to their gardens for a space to socialise and entertain. Bigger than your standard BBQ area, outdoor kitchens are a full space to prepare, cook and serve food to guests without the hassle of going back and forth from the kitchen to the garden!

How can you achieve the look?

Your alfresco cooking area can be as simple or extravagant as you like depending on budget, taste and style. You don’t have to have a large garden space for an outdoor kitchen – it can be as little as one station!

Outdoor entertainment systems like speakers and televisions are a popular choice to keep guests entertained and covers are an excellent way to keep your equipment protected from the elements.

2) Privacy and protection

The garden has become more than just a space to entertain in the summer. Now, people venture outside to relax, exercise and even work from home! Because of this, outdoor trends have developed due to a need for privacy and protection from the elements.

How can you achieve the look?

If your garden has an overhead structure, then it can be easy to create a sense of privacy with drapes or curtains. If not, you can use outdoor screens – even an umbrella can provide a nice amount of privacy. A plant wall is a great way to introduce privacy in a natural way.

We’re all about feature walls here at Walls and Floors. Not only are they a great statement piece for your garden but they make the perfect backdrop for relaxing and socialising.

We have a range of outdoor tiles to suit any style and space! Our Vesuvius Split Face Effect Tiles (above) are a stunning way to introduce a tactile element into your garden with their raised, textured design and our Casa Brick Slip Effect Tiles (below) are a classic option for creating a rustic feel.

4) Climate conscious

Lately, people are beginning to take extra measures to make their gardens more environmentally friendly as we become more conscious of the dangers of climate change. Edible gardens (fruit, vegetables and herbs) are also a massive trend thanks to the popularity of outdoor kitchens, which we’ve discussed above.

How can you achieve this look?

If you have space in your garden, you can plant wildflowers, vegetables or herbs in the ground or, if you have a smaller garden space (or simply like the design) you can use planters or pots.

5) Extend the season

When you have invested time, money and effort into making your beautiful outdoor space perfect, you don’t want the fun to simply stop in the winter! You can create a fun and inviting garden area for you and your guests to enjoy all year long with a few simple touches.

How can you achieve the look?

Furniture, accessories and add ons can help you stay outdoors for longer at night and in the colder months. Simple things like outdoor rugs, throw blankets and ambient lighting can provide extra comfort and fire pits, chimineas and heat lamps are a great solution for keeping out the cold!
